Woman Has Abortion at 28 Weeks Because Baby Would Have “Deformed” Left Hand

A couple in Australia decided to have an abortion at 28 weeks of pregnancy after they learned their unborn child would have a “deformed” left hand.

The woman told a Brisbane, Australia newspaper she was “really, really depressed” after getting the diagnosis that her baby would have a physical disability and she said she would feel guilty about bringing a child into the world with a minor physical “problem.”

ultrasound4d49“I grew up with many people who were disabled, and… there was discrimination,” the mother told the newspaper. “I didn’t want my child to be discriminated against. The problem is… obvious because it is the fingers, and I think the child would have a very hard life.”

Instead of condemning the abortion, much of the reporting at the newspaper laments that the couple couldn’t have killed their unborn baby sooner — as if destroying the “disabled” baby’s life earlier in pregnancy somehow morally atones for aborting an unborn child over a minor physical issue.

Writing at the National Catholic Register, pro-life writer Matt Archbold says he can relat to the plight of the baby victimized by abortion.

“My sister was born without a left hand, not even a deformed one. And she seems to be doing pretty well for herself. She’s a mother of two and an actress in New York. Is she discriminated against? Sure. To think she should’ve been killed is preposterous to me,” he said.

“This thought that the imperfect life is not worth living is preposterous. Who has the perfect life?” he added.

He continued:

My heart breaks over this case. The issue has created a legal stir and the woman has many defenders. The University of Melbourne’s Lachlan de Crespigny reportedly argued that the legality of abortion should have nothing to do with whether the baby can survive outside the womb. “Women have the same rights as the rest of the population in deciding what to do with their bodies, so do you see them as a pregnant woman, someone who doesn’t have that right to decide and must carry that foetus – that it is the role of the Catholic Church or parliament to decide for her?”

But then he added something telling. He said that when abortion became legal it was acknowledged that any restrictions due to fetal development would be arbitrary because at no point does the fetus definitively change in any relevant way. Exactly. Because the baby is human at conception as the baby is human at birth. Nothing can change that. And until we accept every life as human and sacred we’ll continue to see violence against those deemed imperfect.

Hmmmm. ISIS would have taken care of it had it gone full term and had downs or autism. Or was x-gendered. Or because they felt like it.

If she ever loses a finger or gets a noticeable scar, I would expect her as a matter of moral consistency to commit suicide.

If she is intellectually honest, she would have to commit suicide if anything happens to make her less than perfect physically.

Holy Toledo. What will happen to this woman as she gets older? She might need glasses, need a hearing aid, need a walker or cane to get around??? What about the physical imperfections she is likely to experience with the aging process, even if she’s in perfect health today???

3-D printing is doing wonders for this, such as prosthetic hands for kids with partial limbs.

And a minor physical deformity like that is no where compared to the impact of a mental impairment - but we live in a world where both are so segregated from the masses that most don’t know how to deal with it. So people think autism or severe untreated mental illnesses when you say disability or the TV image of an unrealistically healthy looking kid in a wheelchair. All they ever see if the most extreme mental or physical disabilities in the media, which drives many to abort in a pro-abort era.

The 3D printing would have made the stuff I went through with my own firstborn a decade ago easier and much cheaper. And the reactions we dealt with then are likely more extreme today when nearly no children who aren’t physically perfect don’t make it out of the womb unless you didn’t screen.

Django Reinhart, the legendary jazz guitarist, had a deformed left hand due to a childhood accident.

It didn’t seem to stop him.

(Thank you for your vigilance in finding these articles, Morgana. I am sure it is not pleasant, but it needs to be done.)

How utterly sad.

Maybe we need to do away with the conventional “right thing to say” when people talk about an unborn baby. It is commonly heard, when people are asked about the baby, sometimes about gender or whatever, that the expecting could says “As long as it’s healthy.” Or the notion that a couple desperately counts the newborn’s fingers and toes.

Not all babies are born with every part functioning, or “perfectly healthy,” yet all of those babies are adored the same if they are born to decent people. I had four babies and two had special needs that you couldn’t see in utero or at birth. Do I love them one whit less?

I have a friend who gave birth to a baby born with his intestines outside his body. If there had been ultrasounds showing that, it might have looked awful. But he was whisked into surgery and did need a lot of medical care for a few months. Now he’s a high school baseball star 6’2” and who would ever know he started life like that?

When a man comes home from the service with one damaged hand, should we shoot him because his body isn’t 100%? But your BABY, your infant who can’t grasp or reach or write yet, should be “put down” for it?

I think we need to help young people understand that most EVERYONE is born with weaknesses. We fall in love first; then we deal with our baby’s struggles. He needs glasses; he has dyslexia; he has autism; he can’t sit still; we will get him what he needs because he is one of us. “As long as he’s healthy” DOESNT APPLY TO ANYONE already in your family. We don’t dump Grandpa when he gets sick. Why be such a Nazi to the one you haven’t quite fallen in love with? Newsflash, young couple: neither of you is perfect, either.

When reading stories such as this ... I can only thank God for His long suffering and patience. It seems like this Nation is long overdue for the Sodom and Gomorrah treatment.
It may be that the recent influx of the islamics into our Country is God's hand of wrath on a Nation that has turned away from Him.

Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Sad that the mother doesn’t understand that we’re all flawed in some way. Does she truly believe that anyone who might be “discriminated against” should be removed from society for their own good? Only “perfect” children should be welcomed?

Her son/daughter didn't commit suicide...it was Murder One.In this scenario I'd expect her to be....well,can't go on lest I get banned.

Not to divert the topic, but this just sent me over the edge. Today I’m going to be forced to decide to euthanize if my 14 year old cat. I know full well that a cat is not a person and doesn’t experience the same emotions or feelings...and it’s still hard to decide. What the hell kind of “breeder human” thinks it’s OK to murder an innocent due to a slight abnormality? People (and I use that term lightly) like this make me believe more in evolution because they aren’t but one step removed from the animal kingdom.

I worked when I was younger with a "Thalidomide Baby".Long story short;Thalidomide was a drug given to pregnant women in Britain,Canada and elsewhere during the 50's/60's...but not in the US (it was never approved here). It often caused the child the woman was carrying to be born with *badly* deformed arms and hands. This guy was a great guy...intelligent,hard working, never looked for sympathy although if he had he would have deserved it.

Although I never discussed the issue with him my hunch is that he was glad he hadn't been murdered in the womb.

Let’s remember, in the past, muslim women would purposely maim their children, and use the disfigured child for a sympathy factor when they begged for money on the streets.

For all, I know, they still do this.
