WASHINGTON : Sen. Ted Cruz says he doesn't pay much attention to labels of "GOP rock star," despite a flattering interview with the evangelical Christian Broadcasting Network portraying him as a rising force with faith and family at heart.
Cruz, a Southern Baptist, discussed the central role faith plays in his life.
"Life, liberty, and property, the fundamental natural rights of man are given to every one of us by God, and the role of government fundamentally is to protect those rights," he said.
Cruz described faith not as organized religion, but as "a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior." The Rev. Pat Robertson, a former GOP presidential candidate, introduced the segment.
Cruz also said politicians have an obligation to "avoid being a Pharisee" and "ostentatiously wrapping yourself in your faith." The Pharisees were a Jewish sect known for strict observance of law.
The network called Cruz's work on Capitol Hill "remarkable" and highlighted his stances against raising the debt ceiling and the confirmation of Secretary of State John Kerry. It also noted the criticism he received after questioning Chuck Hagel during his confirmation hearing for Secretary of Defense, but CBN reporter David Brody said, "Conservatives applaud his approach."
Cruz's wife, an executive with Goldman Sachs in Texas, also praised her husband during the at-home interview.
During the campaign, she said, "He only got better and better as things got tougher and tougher, and that gave voters and certainly us as his family just a lot of confidence that's he's pretty good.'

This is a video and article from 2013, but this is the number one reason I want Ted Cruz to be President.
Prayer is a daily part of Ted Cruz’s life. He understands this principle:
James 1:5-”If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
There is another Scripture that comes to mind more and more lately: Rev. 3:17-18- “You say, I am rich, I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich, and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes so you can see.”
Because how one prays is the number one factor in determining a President.....
Thanks. It seems to apply particularly this election season.
That one prays and asks for Wisdom is a big thing. Had Washington not been a man of prayer, we would not be having this conversation.
Thanks
It’s actually scary that there are Cruz people on here that have been citing Revelation the last few days and thinking that it refers to Trump. To think people base their votes on that basis is mind boggling.
Bless your little heart.
Actually yes....a leader who humbles himself before God does make a difference to me.
We should pray for Ted tonight.
Trump went after Cruz for fighting McConnell and they are defending that.
I was under the impression we want folks to fight the establishment and that is part of Trump’s success.
That boggles my mind.
I have been.
Absolutely!
What boggles my mind is the double standard Trumpaniacs exhibit in their attitude toward Trump vs Cruz.
Trump supports Kelo, Single payer healthcare, Ethanol subsidies, Planned Parenthood, confiscatory taxes on the rich and opposes Medicare/Social Security reform.
Yet Cruz makes 1 vote in support of TPA (which he explained) but even if you don’t believe him, he’s totally against today and he’s a conservative Judas.
These people are so snake-fascinated with Trump they refuse to see him for what he really is....a skilled carnival barker who lacks both conservative ideals and strong moral compass.
Trump has questioned Cruz’s faith. Ironic coming from a man who profits from gambling(sin) and is an adulturer(sin)
Yeah, yours isn't the first post by a Trump fan to put a low premium on that God stuff.
I’m in.
“Snake-fascinated”
LOL, I almost blew diet Mt. Dew all over the place.
You’re right, though. One misstep (as they see it) by Ted is a crime, but a lifetime of liberalism from their hero? Doesn’t matter.
