Second Suspicious Cellphone Purchase at Mid-Missouri Walmart
Gateway Pundit ^ | 12/09/2015 | Jim Hoft

Early Saturday morning two “foreign speaking” men set off alarms after they entered the local Walmart store in Lebanon, Missouri and purchased 60 cellphones. The purchase was made around 4 AM in the morning. Police were called but released the men saying they didn’t have a legal reason to detain them.

Now this… The Macon County Sheriff’s office is investigating a second suspicious purchase of dozens of cellphones at the Columbia Walmart on Conley Road. ABC 17 reported:

“ ABC 17 News learned Wednesday night that the Macon County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious purchase of multiple cell phones at the Macon Walmart. The FBI in St. Louis and Springfield have been contacted and are investigating.

ABC 17 News reported early Wednesday that 100 prepaid cell phones were purchased at two Missouri Walmarts over the weekend, which caused concerned employees to report the incidents to authorities.

The Columbia Police Department was notified Monday of a suspicious purchase at the Walmart on Conley Road.

According to the police report, several men bought dozens of phones around 9:30 Friday night.

A witness, who didn’t want to be identified, said the men paid with cash only.

“Right then and there I knew there was not something adding up about this. It’s not right, it doesn’t make any sense,” he said. “Who’s going to order 50 phones for Christmas? Who does that?”

Terrorism or simple organized crime activity. Burner phones are hot property when you want to fly under the radar.

Same thing happened down here on the border several years ago. (10 or more years, perhaps?) Men who could pass for M/E-ern (but were probably Hispanic) cleaned out the cell phones at Circle K stores in half a dozen towns.

"Police were called but released the men saying they didn't have a legal reason to detain them.

Police called the FBI to put them under surveillance, one would hope...

it doesn't make any sense

Two possibilities. I can't think of any more than that.

1. The cell phones are being bought for resale on some sort of black market. Perhaps they'll be shipped to the Mexican drug cartels, or to the jihadists in Syria.

2. The buyers are terrorists, as cell phones can be used to remotely detonate homemade bombs.

The number of cellphones bought (60) suggests to me that the first possibility is more likely.

I remember that. A hundred phones is a lot and is suspicious. Since they paid cash hopefully they will look at store videos to at least try to identify the purchasers.

The interesting thing about this is that Drug Cartels would be smart enough to know this could raise a red flag. You can easily purchase them in smaller lots.

So either these people are just plain stupid or they just plain don’t care.

I am going with they don’t care and likely they want to cause alarm.

I'd actually surmise it for number 2.

The Mexican drug cartels aren't that stupid, and try to fly under the radar as much as possible. Muslims, on the other hand, are as arrogant as they are violent, and would see no issue with doing this, getting caught, claiming bigotry/racism/hostility, and thumbing their noses as they go about their plans once the official capitulate and release them. Hopefully, someone got the phones' ID information to track.

Sounds like a radical Moosk needs burn phones for their activities for fear that the ones the have that are registered with the phone company are being monitored.

Could be an adult version of clicking. Buy 100 prepaid cellphones and dare them to question you.

Remote bomb triggers? Anonymous communications? Is there a legitimate reason for anyone to buy 60 cell phones?

Hadn’t thought of that. There are people that used to do that at the airport with cash before Jihadist mess.

I can’t remember the details but something like purchase a one way ticket with cash and have no luggage.

Back then, they were stopped for being possible drug traffickers.
