TOW won’t shoot down helicopters, unless you guide the missile into the chopper. I know this because I helped design the warhead.

The rebels shot down the SAR helo coming in to extract the jet’s crew.
The story mistakenly identifies the helo as a jet.
The claim is that the Syrian rebels shot at the rescue helicopter and also killed the pilot who was parachuting down.

The Turkish Rebels used American made TOW missiles furnished by the CIA.
The Turks shot down the jet. The rebels shot down the helicopter sent in to rescue the pilot.
And a TOW will destroy pretty much whatever it hits.

Yes but you can use TOW against a landing or low flying helicopter. It not is primary use but it can be done.

Both. The Turkish Air Force used their F-16s to shoot down the Russian Jet. Then the Turkish Rebels who were in Syria, shot the Russian pilots as they were descending in their parachutes, and then those same Turkish Rebels in Syria used a US supplied TOW missile to shoot down a Russian Helicopter which was sent to rescue the pilots.
I am thinking there are maybe two incidents here and they are being confused.
Seems there was the original aircraft over turk territory, then a crash and chutes and then a rescue chopper...
Anyway, that is what I am seeing, and the same entities did not bring down both.
TOW, specifically 2b, doesn’t kill by hit. It’s much smarter than that. Can’t say more.
