McDonald’s hopes $2 menu is as popular as Dollar Menu

McDonald's isn't alone in struggling to get customers to let go of the $1 price. Wendy's tried replacing its 99-cent menu with a "Right Price Right Size" menu, but acknowledged the switch wasn't doing the job. Last month, it began promoting a limited-time "4 for $4" deal that includes a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, fries and a drink.

Deborah Wahl, senior vice president of marketing for the U.S., said the McPick platform was designed to give people options.

“Customers are looking for choice and flexibility. That’s sort of the new definition of value,” she said.

While deals remain a staple in fast-food industry, striking on the right one can be tricky. Franchises pay for ingredients like beef and cheese and have to think about whether they can charge low prices and still make money. Companies, meanwhile, get a percentage of sales in royalty fees no matter what.

That can lead to tensions over pricing. In 2009, for instance, Burger King franchisees sued the company over a $1 double cheeseburger they said they were losing money on. The suit was later settled.

It will be just as popular in my household.

We don't eat there now. We won't eat there later.

McDonald’s is a far cry from the All American success Ray Kroc made it in to.

Chick Fil A, Wendy’s, Jersey Mike’s is much better in taste IMO.

Yeah, she sounds like she has her finger on the pulse of the common man, rubbing elbows in McDs all over and choking down big macs..........NOT

McDonalds is pretty low on the list of quality for me on burgers and such already. Their prices are comparable to In n Out, Wendy’s, Chik-fil-a, etc. When the prices are the same, McDonalds will lose every time with me. The only time they get me is their $1 options for breakfast and now I’ve been hearing those are going away too.

Going from the $1 menu to the $2 menu? More evidence supporting the government’s position that there isn’t any inflation. After all, instead of getting two dollar burgers for yourself and your spouse, you can get one for $2 and split it. You still average $1 each. So, no inflation- you aren’t spending any more than before.

I must be getting ancient! I remember when you could get a McD’s burger and coffee and get change back from $1.00 CDN! In fact, that was what they advertised back then. Of course that was 40+ years ago.

Now, ONLY when they have specials, can you get a ‘big’ burger (Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, etc.), fries and soda for $4.99 plus tax otherwise, $6+, plus tax.

The drive thru is convenient their salads are good and cheap under 6 bucks for a salad with chicken on top.

Anything else is pure poison.

I just get sick thinking about it to be honest.

Used to only care about their fries and now those aren’t even good anymore.

I would love to see them reduce the egg mcmuffin to $2.00. They are healthy, low calorie, filling and taste great. I love them.

Their $1 menu was a godsend over the summer when my sons and I were completely broke.
When we were in a rush, for $4 I could buy 3 McChicken sandwiches and a salad.

Indeed - Jersey Mike’s is good. Chik-Fil-A can get pricey but it is good and I support the ownership’s beliefs.

Great idea, in my opinion.
If I want a quick burger and that McDonald’s taste I don’t want to pay a fortune...
And I don’t want an arugula salad or an organic oat seaweed chai tea acai berry health bar.
I hope they succeed.

When my kids were small, the 60s, you could get a small hamburger, small fries, and small drink for 50 cents.

There were no kids menus(with crappy toys) and my husband and I would often get the same thing

The 7 of us could eat for $3.50.

We rarely went out to eat,too much of a hassle, but now and then it was a treat.
