Athletes in the Bangkok Half-Marathon bombarded race organisers with complaints after running almost 17 miles rather than the usual 13.

The organisers later apologised.

They said a marshal told runners to turn in the wrong place.

Weren’t any of them wearing GPS? If so, they would know when they went 13 miles.

Most runners would know the distance just by running.

One of them, apparently:

David Paul Nicholson said on Facebook he was "disgusted" by the error..."According to my GPS watch it was 27.8kms!!! (17.3 miles)," he wrote.

Read this story to my normally mild-mannered runner buddy and his reply was, "I'd [censored] KILL the [censored censored censored]."

Before I run, I study the course map. I would have questioned being diverted off the official course. But that wouldn’t have helped anyone who went through before me.

But having done quite a few half marathons, getting a reading well beyond course measurement is pretty normal. Worse if you’re around tall buildings.

I have to admit, a course marked in KM would likely throw me off anyway, would I notice if a KM marker was a half KM off? Doubtful. A couple of those and you’d add some serious miles to the course.

Most people in a road race are concentrating on maintaining proper pace and on not getting lost. If I had a race official point me in a direction different from the initial map, I’d assume I was being detoured due to something on the original route. That is what they did for the later finishers at 2014’s Boston Marathon due to the bombing. How would I know that the dirty S.o.B. was an idiot who ...

Most runners would know the distance just by running.

And the time. I know my pace and if something is off, I will know pretty quickly.

**** “I blame climate change” ****

Me too

My Dog ran away (again) 4th time so the pound will want $100 (because he is a habitual offender) if they find him before I do. Can I blame it on Global Warming? (If I blamed it on George Bush those folks might gimme a Pass or at least a Discount)

PS FREE DOG, No Joke, needs other Dogs and Lots of Room to Run, very Friendly (Speckled Love Puppy) may be trainable (I have trained him to Heel and Sit in a single evening, must be re-taught every day)
He is a rescue, cannot be left alone in a home or vehicle for more than 30 seconds, if you have a piece of furniture that absolutely must be destroyed and taken down to nearly a molecular size give him a few more hours.
“Steve” can jump a 6’ fence with only his back feet touching while ignoring you, Standing Jump (straight up) when he is happy to see you about 5’.
Looks to be an Australian Shepard, Doberman, Lab ish Cross, acts like Jack Russell Terrier (Super Energy and Super Smart, he can Escape just about anything), He has 1 Blue White Eye and the other is 1/2 Blue White, Mottled Shorthair, about 30 lbs but pulls like he is 50 lbs, built like a Pincher and whoever dumped him the first time docked his tail.
Anyone Interested, (If I get him back) he comes with a big bag of Dog Food and a Night Crate... anyone that plans on keeping him in a Crate more than a few hours ... please don’t respond... Steve needs dog company and some acres, the Crate was the only way I could keep him in Town.

This will also be a Vanity thread, just trying to maximize exposure

They said a marshal told runners to turn in the wrong place.

Obviously, the marshal's name was Wong Wai.
