PHOENIX, - An Arizona housing developer is thinking inside the box to present an apartment complex with a twist.
The city of Phoenix and contractor StarkJames collaborated to create The Containers on Grand, a sustainable apartment complex made entirely out of shipping containers.
The complex is the first of its kind on the United States' West Coast and features eight 740 square foot units and will rent for $1,000 a month, with one serving as an Airbnb.
While the idea is not wholly original, Brian Stark of Stark James was excited by the prospect of bringing it to Phoenix.
"If you go to architecture school, this is one of those projects that you do. You never think that you actually will build it," he told KPHO Phoenix.
Each unit is made of two shipping containers that feature insulated steel walls, reducing the noise that travels between the tightly stacked apartments.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton expressed his pleasure with the new development.
"This project is special in so many ways," he told The Arizona Republic. "This project has a wonderful feel to it and I know that its going to be ... hugely successful."
According to the StarkJames website the properties will be available for rent in 2015, however there is already a waiting list.
Phoenix, in the summer, in a metal container....
Perfect apartments (traps) for the migrants. Need I explain it to you?
Like the proliferation of used tire stores, and aailable retail space, another sign of economic rebound under Obama, and the inherent prosperity of a perpetual war economy.

Paint them haze grey on the outside and light green on the inside and you can simulate Navy life.
Lemme guess...
You bait it with fried falafel?
$1000 a month??
No, that won’t depress property values at all.
A sad state of affairs.
I tell ya, any political candidate who comes along promising to “Make America Great Again” is probably going to be pretty popular with people who are fed up with decline.
;)
I’ve seen a couple of shows on tv where people have built homes from shipping containers. They weren’t cheap
Or menudo?
Bury them in your backyard and they would make a nice fall-out sheter.
Free apartments...I mean live traps...for illegal immigrants, shown prior to loading onto container ships for deportation.
This is liberalism at its finest. Chalk up this designer home with the tiny houses...
Meanwhile, the elite live in fine mansions.

lock it and ship ‘em back!!
I’ve seen a few efforts with shipping containers that don’t look bad, but those look distinctly third world. Maybe they’re not finished yet.
