WASHINGTON, - Bagpipes made their first appearance in space, as a viral video shows an astronaut on the International Space Station using the traditional instrument to play "Amazing Grace."

A video posted to Facebook shows Astronaut Kjell Lindgren playing the tune, representing the first time bagpipes have ever been played in space.

Lindgren was born in Taipei, Taiwan but spent most of his life living in England.

He was selected to be an astronaut in June of 2009 and has been working as an engineer on the International Space Station since July 2015.

Bagpipes played inside a sealed can....

Deafening doesn’t even begin to describe the cacophony. I think hell might have found a new musical instrument.

He’d blow up flat tires to keep his lungs in shape
And his face would turn purple like a big fat grape...

The rumor is he plays a mean-spirited "Una Paloma Blanca" as our space-based defense against Martian attacks.

100% effective so far...

I hear Obama’s been playing a fiddle at the White House.

The others must have put their spacesuits on and went outside before he started playing.

Bagpipes made their first appearance in space...

Actually that's not true. I have it on good authority that Hillary played "Scotland the Brave" on bagpipes while on a secret NASA flight about 20 years ago. I believe she was in the Marines at the time.

Ah, yes...the ‘BadPiper’! Does a great version of “Thunderstruck”.

As for Dr. Lindgren....I wonder if the rest of the crew went into the farthest part of the station. Maybe they crawled into one of the Soyuz capsules to get away from the cacophony.
