Record Number Of Women Now Live In Parents' Basement, Lack Of Weddings Blamed
Bloomberg Article via Zero Hedge ^ | 11/11/2015 | Bloomberg Copied By Tyler Durden

It was less than two months ago that we brought you “The Mystery Of The ‘Missing Inflation’ Solved, And Why The US Housing Crisis Is About To Get Much Worse.” In it, we documented the inexorable rise of rents in America which, thanks to the housing crisis, has gone from being  a society of homeowners to a society of renters, wiping out two decades of “progress” on the homeownership rate in the short span of seven years.

Of course to a certain extent (scratch that, to a “great” extent), the market sowed the seeds of its own destruction by creating ever more “creative” was to allow everyone, even those who couldn’t document their income, to realize the American dream.

Now, the surge in demand for rentals coupled with the fact that because the cost of capital on Wall Street is zero allowing PE to compete with everyday homebuyers has left millennials effectively stuck between rents the can’t afford and homes they don’t qualify for. Throw in a post-crisis economy that churns out waiters and bartenders thanks in part to the fact the very same $1.2 trillion in student loans that are weighing heavily on recent graduates’ finances and you have the perfect setup for a return to mom and dad’s basement.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg is out noting that at an astounding 36.4 percent, the number of women age 18 to 34 living with their parents is now the highest since record keeping began more than seven decades ago:

Some 36.4 percent of women age 18 to 34 lived with their parents or relatives in 2014, the highest since records began in 1940, according to a report released Wednesday by Pew Research Center in Washington. While the share of young men was even greater at 42.8 percent, it wasn't quite as high as it was some 75 years ago.

But the punchline here is that the Pew Center blames this rather alarming statistic on school and weddings:

College enrollment rates for both full- and part-time students have generally increased over the past couple decades, and some students may be trying to offset stiff tuition costs by bunking with their parents.

Eternal happiness can wait. Millennials are much less likely to be married than their parents were at their age, and marriage often serves as an impetus to move out.

We'll close with Pew's take on the economy and Harvard's. Note the vastly divergent "opinions." We'll let you decide who's right:

Pew:

The increase is puzzling considering the improved state of the economy and an improving job market that has helped more young people earn enough to venture out on their own. Here are some of the longer term forces that could be at play.

Harvard:

Millennials are also expected to continue experiencing rent burdens as they age. Having entered the labor market during and following the Great Recession, those in the millennial generation have received lower wages and experienced higher rates of unemployment and underemployment than their older counterparts at this point in their lives. As a result, millennials have less wealth accumulated, have delayed forming new households, and are less likely to become owners at the age that older generations had previously. n combination, we are likely to see additional household formation by millennials over the next decade and expect a relatively higher share to remain renters during that period.

This is why the U.S. government is hell-bent on allowing foreign invaders to pour across our borders. Some dude from Mexico who arrives in California with a net worth of $0 is tens of thousands of dollars better off than many of his American-born counterparts who are saddled with astronomical debt.

Or....its due to easy hook-ups, internet porn, and the fact that marriage in America has become a life-destroying catastrophe for men (due to child support, no-fault divorce, and the weaponizing of domestic violence claims to gain the advantage in family court).

People who live their life on the internet through a collection of devices that barely fill up a milk crate have little use for the responsibility of home ownership. It is not their American Dream. Nationwide WiFi is their American Dream.

Blame militant feminism for the lack of weddings. Some of us men like to hold the door open for a lady without being yelled at. And some of us men also prefer a woman who doesn’t act, and dress like a slut.

I would be willing to help some of these parents. Just me a picture of your daughter and a dossier and I will consider letting her stay at my place.

If the American Dream is home ownership then the dream was wiped out many years ago when we allowed the perpetual tax on property.

Quit the charade. No one can own a home when the state can tax the property every year and if the tax is not paid then the property is confiscated. That by definition is not ownership as no one can ever have clear title of the property. Oddly only the state by definition can truly realize the American Dream.

The "American Dream" is just that and nothing more, so call a convention of the states and end perpetual taxation of Real Estate or keep dreaming.

I’ve instructed my boys to always hold the door open for women and if they are yelled at.....keep doing it anyways. Those women aren’t worth knowing.

The cost of education is also.a significant factor. It’s hard to buy a house when you owe $120,000 for a four year degree.

It’s a Whole New World Order out there.

Dear Old Dad, who I now care for, said the thing he liked best about me was that I left home at 17...and never came back, LOL!

Roots and Wings. Kids aren’t instructed in that, anymore. :(

The ones who have $10k or even $0 in college debt aren’t willing to enslave themselves to their future ex-wife either. Hook-ups are just too easy to risk marriage. My advice is get a reversible vasectomy at age 18, don’t tell the women so they think they’re buying a ticket in the child support lottery, and have fun.

Family court and feminism have greatly reduced any upside for good men to get married. Many guys remember the hell that their dads went through and have said, not me.

I don’t suppose that FORTY MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS might have something to do with it??

News Flash!!!

Bill and Hillary, after reading about the millinnials’ plight, agreed to take in an additional 254 families into their New York City home. That doesn’t include the 300 busloads of alien invaders, sent by Gov. Abbott of Texas, heading toward Bill and Hill’s home at this very moment. In addition, President Obuma has graciously agreed to send 5,000 recently released felons to Hillary’s house this Friday. They will join 1,000 heavily armed Syrians living in Hillary’s server located in the bathroom.

“I’ve instructed my boys to always hold the door open for women and if they are yelled at.....keep doing it anyways. Those women aren’t worth knowing.”

I think it would be fun to end the date on the spot if yelled at for opening the door: “Clearly YOU’RE not suited for ME. I’m leaving now. I assume you’re independent enough to find your own way home. Enjoy your life of opening doors for yourself. Bye.”

“aren’t willing to enslave themselves to their future ex-wife either.”

I had a friend who told me that every time he got married he was resigned to having to give another house away.

B-B-B-baby baby baby why you wan' treat me this way

You know I'm still your lover boy I still feel the same way

That's when she told me a story, 'bout free milk and a cow

And said no hug-ee no kiss-ee until I get a weddin' vow

My honey my baby, don't put my love upon no shelf

She said don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself
