At the mercy of Dennis Rodman in North Korea: film director tells all

Colin Offlandâs film about Dennis Rodmanâs trip to North Korea is a rollercoaster of a documentary.
Following the former Chicago Bulls basketball player and a motley crew of his fellow ex-NBA colleagues, the film â called Dennis Rodmanâs Big Bang in Pyongyang â depicts the groupâs efforts to bring peace to the troubled Korean peninsula by organising a basketball game, while also throwing the leader Kim Jong-un a âbirthday party to rememberâ.
But it doesnât all go according to plan. The film follows the events as â amid massive press coverage and criticism of Rodman â sponsors pull out and tempers fray. Itâs a tragicomedy, balancing the absurdity of the Rodmanâs friendship with the leader of the secretive state with a sympathetic and nuanced eye not usually seen in documentaries about the DPRK.
Offland says he first stumbled on the story in 2013, when Rodman, in collaboration with gambling company Paddy Power, announced he was returning to North Korea to put on a basketball game. Heâd been to the country before, in February 2013 with Vice and the Harlem Globetrotters (an exhibition basketball team), and having befriended the great leader on his first trip, Rodman was going back to train the national team and organise a US-North Korea game.

P!
Did Rodman’s team let the norks win? I would imagine the north Korean team would have suffered terrible punishment if they lost.
He looks like something one commonly flushes down the toilet, either one.
At one time a great basketball player but now little more than a glorious has-been.
LOL, I love those olive drab green tractors they have pulling the rocket trailers.
What in God’s name is wrong with this freak?
That’s a rhetorical question, no need to answer.
As society keeps it’s downward spiral, we shall see far more of this.
Many years ago when I still drank I had a hell of a time one night with Dennis.
He is nutz. Don’t pay attention to him.
One weird thing about him back then, his calves. From the back his legs from the knees down to the ankles looked like insect legs. His body was a freak of nature.
He was a nice guy, don’t get me wrong, he is just insane.
That looks painful.

Thanks for not mentioning the fact that Rodman was also a member of another NBA back-to-back World Championship team when he was a “Bad Boy”.
I worked with a guy who lived down the street from him in Newport. He’d be leaving for work, at 5:30am, and the Worm and his crew would be rolling in, starting a BBQ, on the patio. Like you say, he described him as a genuinely nice fellow, nuttier than a fruitcake !
My pal was neighbors with both Reggie Jackson, and then Rodman. He said Reggie was normal, but a jerk, Rodman was weird, but a nice guy. Go figure !
yeah, go figure...lol.
I guess Dennis Rodman is considered one of the greatest rebounders ever to play the game, if not THE greatest...
