The mother of a murdered 9-year-old Chicago boy has been forced to defend herself after using donations intended for her son’s burial to buy a new car.
Tyshawn Lee was lured into a South Side alleyway and gunned down last week in an attack that has been linked to a gang feud.
The boy’s mother, Karla Lee, has admitted using the money donated through GoFundMe to buy the car but insisted it was what her son would have wanted to keep her safe.
“Am I afraid for my life? 100% I’m afraid for my life,†the 26-year-old told Fox 32 Chicago.

I guess I don’t see the problem here. Did the donations come with strings attached? From what I understand she used part of the money to bury her son and part for a new car. What was she supposed to do with the amount left over after the funeral, bury it with her son??? The poor woman needs a break.

Wouldn’t this be considered fraud? She basically solicited donations under the guise of using the money for funeral expenses and used it for something entirely different.
What is the difference between her and someone pretending to have a disease while collecting money for themselves.

A normal regular casket funeral is about $8000... plus gravesite/opening and closing will be extra, so if people see a running total before they donate, they know then that there will be extra money for her to use however.

Give it to her church, donate it to another family that needed help with basic needs, establish a scholarship in her son’s name. Lots of things she could have done. It’s called pass it on!
Yes. The gofundme shows the total asked for and then how much has been donated so far and even a running total of the amounts and who donated. If you don’t want your name on there you can be anonymous.
There is nothing missing from the site. You can see it all at first glance.
So now that people are made aware that there is say $10K, enough for burial, at that point they can stop giving.
If they donate anyway, I see no problem of her using the extra where she wants.
Donating to the overage is not a call to have Donators Remorse.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
