Almost identical experience at Wendy’s, back in the 70s. My wife, my youngest son and I spent the night in E.R. being rehydrated. My older son, age 4 didn’t get sick at all. He didn’t eat at Wendy’s that day.
40 years ago and I still haven’t set foot back in a Wendy’s.
Wow, all these years I never realized I was a Senior Citizen......LOL!
Please keep in mind that I speak (type) only for myself...
As a veteran, I choose not to participate in most of these rewards because to do so would require me to alter my already busy work day. I appreciate the sentiment and the gesture, and I encourage those who would like to enjoy them to do so with a heart filled with joy and peace. For those vets that have financial or other difficulties, I especially hope they find many opportunities to partake.
I am very grateful to my country and my fellow veterans - both those I served with and those who came before or after - for the opportunity to serve, while still building my own opportunities for what comes after. I went to school on an ROTC scholarship, and that education has become the key to many post-service opportunities which I am pursuing with as much vigor as I can.
Beyond all of that, I would like to thank every single honorable veteran in this nation. Regardless of political outlook, your service is a reminder of what makes the United States great.
For those that never served in the military, I thank you for each act of service outside of uniform. By giving of yourself to your fellow citizens, you strengthen the bonds between all of us.
Just my $.02.
I got called the “E” word a couple of weeks ago, for the very first time.
I had bought a bunch of groceries at W-M and I noticed the check out lady was using a lot more bags than necessary, putting just a few items in each bag, so I asked her why she was doing that. She said, “I do that for all my elderly customers, it makes it easier for them to carry”.
I called on my Christian beliefs to refrain from asking her if she did the same for her fat customers. (The clerk was noticeably obese) She said that “E” word two more times while I was there and I held my peace, excusing her for being young (about 25) and ignorant.
I know how old I am, (70) it’s not necessary for a total stranger to remind me of it three times, in one short conversation.
Besides, “Mears”, whom I’m pinging, is older than I am but I know for a fact she will recognize that I’m teasing a tad and won’t take offence (I hope)
Words well said MortMan. All that served, served not for the gimmees and detritus of the nation - but that their country might be preserved through their sweat, and if necessary; their very blood.

I’d never take offense at you-—you know that.
The first time a very young clerk asked me if I wanted the Senior Discount I was FORTY-FIVE YEARS OLD. Needless to say,I was horrified.
Now I’m annoyed if they don’t ask. :-)
