Maybe it was the best use of them. However, the BLM is a corrupt and abusive govt agency which should be disbanded.

I’m wondering if they have gone ahead and taken the Wild Horses of the Salt River. The hubbub has quieted down and the Government SAID they would leave them alone. I have seen NONE grazing recently in the area. I guess they cause damage to the wild areas, but there is just something so American in seeing wild horses running free. Hoping they are not confiscating these horses in the dead of night......but this Government lies all the time, so who knows.

Or not.I’ve got a formerly wild mare, smartest saddle horse I’ve ever rode. The Spanish bred some of the best ranch horses ever, and generations of natural selection has produced some great animals. There’s some great horses out there.

Does no one here on FR remember President Obama authorizing on Thanksgiving, by Executive Order, in either 2011 or 2012, establishing EIGHT horse slaughterhouses?? I knew he did it for a friend because no one noticed, and yet, in America, we don’t eat horsemen (not knowingly, anyway). I always wondered what was going on with those EIGHT slaughterhouses!!! Now I think we know......gues that’s where Taco Bell is getting meat????

” there is just something so American in seeing wild horses running free.”

And, no species is less indigenous to North America!

I despise the BLM but honestly there are just too many wild horses. It costs a fortune to keep them on those feedlots and there just are not enough people to adopt them. Sometimes you have to cull the herd.

‘Jay F. Kirkpatrick, a leader in horse reproduction research who directs ZooMontana’s Science and Conservation Center in Billings, Mont., is among those who say BLM’s view is outdated.

“On the face of the science, it is just absolutely incorrect,” said Kirkpatrick, who has studied reproductive physiology for decades since earning his degree at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

“It wasn’t the predominant horse on the continent but it was here. It is native to North America,” he told AP.
