I’m an Al Bowlly fan, just as much as his counterpart crooner in the USA in the era, Bing Crosby.
Damn shame what happened to Bowlly. He’d really have made a mark on music over a long career.

He was killed in his sleep in London by a Nazi bomb.

He was killed by a German parachute bomb in London during the Blitz. A lousy terror weapon deliberately aimed at the civilian populace of London.
His death, I think, had at least something to do with the overshadowing of British Swing music by American Swing. He died just as his career was reaching a peak, and had he lived Al Bowlly would today be at least as well known as legendary crooner Bing Crosby.
Go find his surviving music on YouTube and see if you agree he was something extraordinary as a crooner.
