Does spray-painting âUSAâ on the side of a mosque constitute a hate crime?
After two drunken teens were arraigned on vandalism charges Monday, Islamic leaders demanded the Sunday incident be classified as a hate crime.
Though police in Burlington, Massachusetts are chalking it up to an alcohol-fueled prank by 18-year-olds Cameron Cappella and Derrik Demone, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has signaled âadditional chargesâ may be possible.
How could âUSAâ be considered a hate crime? According to the Boston Globe, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Executive Director John Robbins âhas said he believes the graffiti reflects an offensive view that Muslims are not fully American.â
When the same building was targeted with âUSAâ graffiti in 2013, CAIR demanded a FBI investigation.
One of the boys in the latest incident has already apologized, calling it a âprankâ, according to WHDH-7 TV Boston.

No. This was a drunken prank. The most that should happen is that this pair should have to either paint over the graffiti or pay to have a professional do it.
اÙÙÙâ wills it.
sounds like the kids who did it have Italian last names.
If so, I’m proud today.
Is smashing three airplanes into buildings killing over 3,000 people a hate crime?

Would it be ok to spray paint USA on a Catholic Church, a Temple, a Mormon church or your own home? If the answer to any of those is yes then it is not a good thing.
I’ve seen worse on various buildings. On one building near here, back in the late 1950s someone spray painted the words SATAN’S AN then got scared off. It remained on that wall for thirty years before the building was torn down.
Is it a hate crime? I’d say it depends on “who” does it, and how big a book the authorities want to throw.
Which, is why “hate” is a poor crime sentencing enhancement.
The poor wittle muslimes want any criticism/slander of islam considered a hate crime.
