The Tennessee Titans have fired Ken Whisenhunt less than two years into his tenure as the team's coach.
The Titans announced the decision Tuesday, promoting Mike Mularkey to interim coach. Titans interim CEO Steve Underwood and Mularkey will address the firing at a news conference Tuesday afternoon at 12:20 p.m. ET.
"After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Ken Whisenhunt of his head coaching duties," Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement. "We have expected more progress on the field, and I felt it was time to move in a different direction. I would like to thank Ken for his efforts with our team, as he worked very hard to try to move us forward."
The Titans are 1-6 this year and went 3-20 overall under Whisenhunt, who signed a five-year contract with Tennessee prior to the 2014 season.

What do you think of Mariota so far? Feel like he’s the future?
So far so good. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a line that knows how to block. He’s missed the last two games with an injury. Hopefully they can build around him a good team. We haven’t done to well with first round QB picks of late. Jake Locker and Vince Young
Houston Oilers, REDUX. Bum Phillips is laughing or being extremely witty somewhere.
The ADAMS Family.
Yea, Mularkey did such a great job at Jacksonville.
Malarky is a synonym for bullsh!t.
My New Orleans Saints play them next Sunday here in the dome.
This was long overdue IMO. I bought PSLs and had season tickets for years, but I have struggled to enjoy them since the Fisher era ended. I remain hopeful about Mariota, but the organization is a mess. Awful ownership.
Not like that’s much of an accomplishment. The Titans are a pitiful franchise.
They beat the Giants, barely, who are number one in pass defense. If Brees has any kind of reasonable day, he will put up good numbers again as the Titans are 30th in pass defense. But you guys already know that.
I think that's been the problem behind the Lions for the past several decades.........
The way I look at it, if the NFL can deny anyone from purchasing a team, they should damn well be able to force a sale..........
Same problem in San Diego!
The Saints have always had a bad habit of losing badly the week following a huge win. In 2011, they beat the Colts 62-7 and lost the following week to the St. Louis Rams. Of course, that was also the same week that the St. Louis Cardinals had won the World Series so the fans and the Rams players may have been riding high.
