Recent Years' Federal Government Economic Data
Federal government agencies ^ | Nov. 2, 2015 | Free Republic

Posted on 11/02/2015 5:04:29 PM PST by WilliamofCarmichael

This updates years 2007 - 2015 of an earlier post of Federal Government Economic Data covering several decades. Both include links to the government agencies' tables. Updates include additional foreign-born data and annualized data for 2015 using 3rd quarter data.

TOPICS: Reference
KEYWORDS: debt; economy; gdp; labor

The original table (here) and this update covering years 2007 to current year show critical economic data from the federal government itself. The tables can be used to compare administrations over the decades.

Labor force statistics native/foreign born; noninstitutional population native/foreign born; labor force participation rate native/foreign born; unemployment rate native/foreign born; household annual income; federal debt; annual federal debt as a percentage of GDP; real GDP comparison of year-to-year percentages and dollars; GDP vs. deficit; real GDP annual changes; U-6 unemployment rate; personal consumption expenditures percentage of real gross domestic product; contributions to percent change in real gross domestic product from defense and non-defense spending, percentages and dollar amounts; Social Security's Disability awards; federal receipts, outlays, and surpluses or deficits. If the data are available from the federal government I should be able to easily add new columns to the table.

Notes.

  • the columns hyperlink directly to notes at the end and
  • the notes contain links directly to the original data in

    • the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
    • the Bureau of Economic Analysis,
    • the United States Census Bureau,
    • the Treasury Department,
    • the National Bureau of Economic Research, Inc. (considered an official source for recessions authority),
    • the Office of Management and Budget,
    • the Social Security Administration (SSA) and
    • a couple of columns that I developed using the federal data.
  • I am hoping to keep the table current quarterly with annualized data through election 2016.

You hover the column headings in the table to see the description and
you hover column data to see if there are additional data in columns.
All data are from BLS, BEA, U.S. Census, OMB, SSA, and additional federal sources.

National Defense component of the Real GDP increase/decrease percent, year-to-year
Example. GDP-$ Figures are in billions. Years are 2011 and 2012 and prior years are 2010 and 2011 respectively. Prior years are shown in the example.
  • (14,783.8 * -0.13%) + 813.5 =
  • (-19.21894)+ 813.5 = 794.2906 (BEA table shows 795.0)
  • (15,020.6 * -0.18%) + 795.0 =
  • (-27.03708)+ 795.0 = 767.96292 (BEA table shows 768.7)

Take

  • last year's Real GDP
  • times current year's National Defense increase/decrease percent
    • (an addend of current year's Real GDP increase/decrease percentage)
  • and add (+/-) the result to last year's National Defense budget.

This simple illustration is off a few hundred millions (budget dust :) ) I guess because of the more complicated procedures used by BEA.

BTW it just occurred to me to acknowledge a text tool that makes this stuff a heck of a lot easier. It's called Notepad++

With the help of Notepad++ it is relatively easy to add to the table -- which is actually 30+ tables almost all of which are single column tables.

Great for many programming languages as well as HTML and stuff.
