Single women without a valid "reproduction permit" from the government are routinely denied birth certificates for their children.
They will not be given a hukou - the official household registration - and so their child will have trouble gaining admission to school or access to affordable healthcare.
Moreover, if women cannot produce a marriage certificate upon giving birth, they are frequently slapped with a "social maintenance fee" for violating family planning policies.

The symbol in Chinese for GOOD is a woman with a little boy, that is, a wife who produces a son. The word is"hoe," for GOOD and "gay hoe" is very good.
Their misogyny is part and parcel of their culture. SOME things never change. The government even tried giving the father's job to the one child, a daughter. That failed miserably.
Now, amniocentesis will aid in destroying BOTH female fetuses. The Chinese aren't going to change. Why should they? They really DO think that their culture is superior to all others, even in the face of war and famine.
Indians feel the same about their culture.
To me OLD doesn't equate with BETTER.
I actually agree with the idea of discouraging unmarried mothers.
I ran a software company for several years. And I had lots of Chinese employees. They would come into my office from time to time to tell me that they were having a baby. Sometimes they would apologize for not asking permission first. I told them to keep family matters to their selves. And to only tell us when they need help, or when it would affect their jobs. In America we don’t tell people when they can have babies.
If you think government doesn’t want to take control of every part of our lives, you have to see what life is like in China.
The Chinese are smart people.
Who on earth do they think is going to bear the sons in the future if girls aren’t born?
I don’t get it.

The writer’s name is pronounced ‘Some Gay’?
” if women cannot produce a marriage certificate upon giving birth, they are frequently slapped with a “social maintenance fee”
Sounds worth considering. Instead of welfare for illegitimate babies, charge a fee to cover the social costs.
This is one way to identify a tyranny ...
And yet the west, America, is at 1.8(Germany 1.6) fertility rate. Its considered Flat population rate and if it does not turn around, Western Civilization is done for.
So Ladies & Gentlemen get busy.......
(its not funny people are not having kids in the west)
It's the Chinese against the Muslims in America. Who will win this game of population dominance?
=======================================
1. Yes, they are.
2. They know all this.
Side note: Tibetan dowries were SO expensive that brothers and male cousins used to pool their scarce resources and TOGETHER buy ONE wife. She inherited the lovely task of taking care of FOUR men, food, sex, the whole nine yards.
3. Neither do I. That kind of blind spot BOGGLES the mind. They really don't like women. They bound the feet of their wealthy women...just for the look of tiny "lotus feet." How SICK was that?
Since there is no mention of generations of parasites contributing nothing but living off "free" everything, that must not be a factor in China?
I don’t think the communists thought through consequences of their one child policy when they forced it on the country.
Among the consequences were that, given the strong preference for boys in their culture, that many people would take action to make sure that their one child was a boy.
China Population. 1.357 Billion
US Population. 319 Million
And I would bet the farm that Chinese welfare roles are half of US roles. Even though they outnumber us by a billion. And as awful as "reporduction permits" are - at least China has it right when it comes to single mother households.
That's why the people from these nations should not be allowed to enter America.
This is one way to identify a tyranny ...
Tyranny, yes. But which tyranny is worse? Needing a reproduction permit? Or subsidizing single mother households as we do here in the US, by forcing normal families to pay for these welfare families?
The US Government, by contrast, 'only' commits armed robbery of We, the People.
Neither does anyone else.
The difference is that China had, in essence, mandatory charity among formally married couples, provided by the immediate community... in the 16th century!
There are many chapters in the following book extensively answering the very question you posed --- in the historical context :
Asia, and China specifically, plays a major role in the narrative.
Does not the US Government also murder babies like the Chinese?
Why yes. Yes they do. Maybe not against their will, but murder is murder.
By any definition - family conditions imposed by the State are far better here in the US, than they are in China. Do not misunderstand me, I would never want to live under a Chicom system. I would never want to live under Obamnism either - but that’s neither here nor there.
The point is - China does have some redeeming benefits in its single mother policies.
In other threads on this forum, I have advocated the abolition of WIC, SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, Section 8 housing, etc ....
And have done so for hundreds of years.
Of course that they have hundreds of years of experience makes it, for them, a no brainer; no argument, no discussion.
During various periods since the 8th centuries, in times of a coincidence of severe climate change (food supply), both droughts and floods lasting several years, wars, both civil and invasions, the conditions were brutal and uncompromising.
Mothers sold children for food, infanticide (punishable by death) was rampant, and many reports of cannibalism are on record (mothers eating their children), and this happened a half dozen times in 1000 years, when large areas of China lost 50% of their population.
Smaller cities and towns disappeared completely.
