He died in 1864 at the age of 49—he took sick after walking 2 miles in a pouring rain and then lecturing in his wet clothes. He left behind a wife and 5 daughters, the youngest less than a year old. A grandson invented the jungle gym.

Must have a different Google homepage in Europe:

Still remember making my way through “Intro to the Laws of Thought” in a great books class. Precursor to Claude Shannon and Info Theory.

For Father Boole,

IF it is that Donald Trump is the Republican candidate, THEN I shall vote for him.

When Sanders AND Clinton have finished their last campaign gasp, OR their last gasp ever, THEN the U.S. can get on with the business of righting itself from the grasps of Socialists and Communists.

Yup. The core math in all computers. These logic gates are used to make higher level functions (with feedback) like flip-flops and then state machines.

My son is interested in programming and hardware. I was explaining these gates to him this past weekend.

You can make any logic gate from three building blocks: And, Or, and Nor.

Yup. He was brilliant! Credit due...

He developed this form of math well before there was even a use for it and he had no idea that 200+ years later our whole society, industry and communication, just about everything in our modern lives is based something that uses this basic math. Simply because our modern computers only use 1s and 0s.

How many other mathematicians have created some new form of math or mathematical theory that will never be used but is as impressive as this.

And what about Karnaugh Maps for simplification of Boolean logic.

Karnaugh Maps are not just used in Boolean algebra but have many other uses — business, systems design, etc.
