Here's a blink comparison with a view from Starry Night Pro7. I noticed that the image was oriented with the celestial coordinates, so I moved my POV to the north pole to get natural alignment. It still wasn't perfect so I did rotate my Starry Night screen shot slightly to get the best match I could. One thing though, the APOD image is REVERSED ! Well, no crime, but interesting. SN Pro7 allows me to "flip" horizontally or vertically, and a vertcial flip gave me good alignment. I used the free online animated GIF maker to get the blink comparison.
The grid lines are 1 minute of RA apart horizontally, and 15 minutes of latitude apart vertically. Note how small the green circle is, which marks IC 1871.
