Obama on Saturday called for limiting the amount of standardized educational testing to two percent of classroom time, addressing the growing concern across the county about an over emphasis on test taking.

"Learning is about so much more than just filling in the right bubble," Obama said in a video released on Facebook.

Obama and outgoing Education Secretary Arne Duncan plan an Oval Office meeting Monday with teachers and school officials who are working to reduce testing time.

Obama’s efforts should be welcome news for teachers and their powerful and largely pro-Democrat unions that say educators’ performance evaluations shouldn’t be tied to standardized test scores.

Hillary Clinton embraced the principles laid out by Obama.

All over the country incompetent teachers rejoice. They now won’t have to suffer the possibility that they, like those multiple Atlanta and Fulton/DeKalb County teachers, have to eventually get caught faking the results. Praise be, they are free.

That's fine Mr. President, help speed up the dumbing down of a nation.

No need for testing, evaluating, measuring, comparing or analyzing student data.

Just go on field trips kids! Chocolate milk for free and a docile, ignorant population is easily corraled into whatever the White House wants, right?

I am confused. I know that “No Child Left Behind” caused more and more standardized testing; doesn’t Common Core do the same? I wish these government types would make up their minds.

No Child Left Behind has morphed into No Money Left Behind under Obama. The deal under Bush was the Feds supplied more money to the local educational system provided standardized testing was enacted. Only a matter of time before the Dems kept the money and stripped the Act bare of its only useful measurement tool at the bequest of the unions.

Common core is ‘no child left behind’ on steroids. It is complete federal intrusion, with federal curriculum (you can imagine what they teach)...and teachers are left to teach to the test. This is Obama’s doing...so his ‘double speak’ continues to shadow our country.

Urban offspring of single mothers don’t show well on these tests, either.

Can’t have that correlation come to light.

As long as they learn how to "fill in the bubble" for the democrat on the ballot,I guess.......

Fearless leader in White Hut decides our children shouldn’t have more than 2% of their time spent on standardized tests. Talk about one person making decisions for all of us! Freedom be damned.

Shouldn’t that be “FECKLESS” leader?

Government school parents don’t want to have to face the fact that their favorite welfare entitlement - “free” daycare in a government medium security institution - is making their children dumb as rocks. The Government education special interests want their money without accountability. Politicians don’t want to anger the education special interests by exposing their failure. It’s all pretty simple. This is not to say all of the testing is well designed or useful, but the real issue is aversion to exposing the truth about government schools.

I’ve got two kids in school right now, and the amount of time required for testing is simply ridiculous. My (then) third grade son devoted three weeks straight last spring to standardized tests, which wore him to a frazzle. So yeah, they need to go away.

Common Core is the in-class manifestation of No Child Left Behind.

Isn't it the federal gubermint that is forcing “Common Core” on our children? This seems in direct contradiction. First you insist on a certain set of educational content, then you refuse to test if it has been delived properly?

I don’t disagree. What I do disagree with is the reasons why Obama and company (union teachers included) don’t want to be held accountable.

For the record, I have three grand daughters going through elementary school and I spend most weekends working with them on homework and the like. Their work isn’t so much keyed to standardized tests, per se, but the weird methods of arriving at an answer, for example in math.

Who cares if they cannot read or write. When they are looking for a job and are unable to fill out the application they will blame everybody else but themselves. That is what they have been taught. Oh yeah and Hillary will give them free college so they can sit around and do nothing for another 4 years.
