S.F. principal delays vote results, saying winners aren’t diverse
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | October 20, 2015 | Jill Tucker

When San Francisco middle school principal Lena Van Haren saw which kids on her campus had been elected to the student council, she was disturbed at the lack of diversity among the winners. There were no Latino or black candidates chosen for the top four spots.

Her concern for a representative student government, given the preponderance of students of color at Everett Middle School in the Mission District, may have been understandable. What she did about it, however, swiftly raised a different kind of alarm.

"while white, Asian and mixed-race students, who are in the minority at the school, took the top four spots."?

Is that similar to the first black president?

While there was some diversity among the 10 winners, no English learners were elected, even though they make up about a third of enrollment . . .

Well, electing illegal immigrant kids isn't going to change that.

If the election results are not to your liking, cancel the election.

Isn't that what the 28th amendment says?

The first thing I would ask...why are there no American Indians as teachers in the school, and why aren’t there any mixed El Salvadorian-Ukrainian kids in the school?

Seems to me...if you want to play the diverse game....you need to give up voting and just pull a name from each ethnic group and then rotate the four top spots every other week.

As a kid around the 8th grade....we were forced into participating in a group (it’d gone on for twenty years). Enthusiasm among the 30-odd kids for this mandatory participation had diminished each and every year. So in this one opening session where four officers would be elected from the group...a core of four of us (myself included) had quietly talked up among a dozen others to pick the four marginal people out of the entire group and ensure they were elected. In essence...we swung sixteen votes, and got each of the dimwits elected. The teacher and the counselor were shocked and tried to stage another vote...but we voted the same way again. So, they held a meeting and disestablished the mandatory club that afternoon.

As I learned early on....democracy is a great tool to carve away at society and it’s stupidity.

Wouldn’t it have been better to have this big campaign episode in the school....had the big vote for the four officers...then basically throw out all the votes (don’t even count them)....and rig the four spots to some Asian girl, some transgender guy from Mexico, some Ukrainian-Russian lesbian, and some geeky white boy who wears a tie to class but can’t tie his tennis shoes?

So the principal is a racist. That’s evident.

“African American and Latino students were underrepresented, while white, Asian and mixed-race students, who are in the minority at the school, took the top four spots.”

Take away the Asian and mixed-race students and the field looks like the Democratic presidential campaign.

Fire the guilt-ridden White woman, who is obviously an Affirmative Action hire because she doesn’t seem too smart. It’s not the fault of the winners that they were busy making campaign signs, while the minority kids were busy flashing gang signs.

Read the article you kindly linked, stylin19a, but unfortunately, the phrases "enormous backlash" and "outrageous arrogance" were nowhere to be found in it.

Neither were "tar and feathers" nor "rode out on a rail." (I know: Not your fault.)

I apologized to parents for causing any anxiety," she said. "I was never planning on changing the elections."

Hey ! come on ! She apologized, for cryin out loud.

Course, if she wasn't planning to change the elections, why post-pone the results
