Vet, 75, saves kids from knife wielding attacker

A 75-year-old veteran used his Army knife-fight training to stop a man armed with two hunting knives from going after a roomful of children Tuesday at an Illinois public library, the Pekin Daily Times reports.

Sixteen children were getting a chess lesson from James Vernon in a room at the library when 19-year-old Dustin Brown allegedly came in with a hunting knife in each hand screaming that he was going to kill people. Vernon tells the Washington Post that one thought went through his mind: “This can’t happen here and I’m not going to let it happen. These kids are my responsibility right now.”

Thanks...
I have no doubt about using and I just hope I have the sense enough to make sure it is appropriate etc.

Remember the ‘knock out game’....’THEY’ don’t realize it but they have come up with the ‘perfect crime’ as long as no testifying witnesses etc and the idiots don’t film it and show it online(>>>

It is perfect inasmuch as the guy walking down the street, usually with compadres, walks up and decks you then continues walking down the street.

Perfect in the sense that you can’t do anything until he actually swings - you can’t anticipate etc - and when he walks away, the danger is ‘gone’ and you can’t pursue.

I don’t think I have to explain to you that what I said above is in a ‘legal’ sense etc but at least it may ‘slow down’ the non-agreers (If they get this far)...ha

Pax, remember gun control is hitting what you are aiming at and carrying a gun is like carrying a parachute - chances are you will never need either BUT in the right circumstance much better to have on hand than be wanting.

Bravo, Mr. Vernon!

A member of the greatest generation, and still going strong.

God Bless him.

A man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do

Saw one the other day ‘MAYBE’ here????(loose interpretation)

Guns/Prayers

You don’t have to like guns or God.
That is your right.

BUT

If you hear a noise downstairs in the middle of the night you more than likely pick up the phone and make a call or two.

THEN

You will PRAY TO GOD that a PERSON WITH A GUN gets to your house before the person downstairs ‘finds’ you.

So do you disagree that we need to get rid of public schools? The reasons have never been based on public safety, btw, and I highly doubt that’s the primary reason people homeschool their kids.

I support all options, Public schools, private schools, religious schools, homeschools, etc....
I also support every parents right to decide what works best for their child and their own personal situation.
The thing I do not support is the extremist view of many of the Home school onlyists that you find to frequently on FR.

Chudleigh!

I like that name.

I like Labradors. Personally, not a fan of small dogs that can fit in pocketbooks. I like dogs that are dog sized.

Labs rule. :)

We have no use for pocket dogs .....’round here we call them *shark bait*. My neighborhood is full of small, yappy dogs ...when they come to visit Winchester .... they barely reach his belly button. He has no use for them.

He did have a friend down a few houses, who was a huge Mastiff, with a deep, beautiful bark that echoed off Mt. Washington. He passed away recently....so our boy is the *big kid* on the block.

*Chudleigh* is a very Brit sounding name .... upper crust and all that! Cherrio, ole chap!

Next week’s chess move - Don’t be a Pawn, Be a Fighting Knight. If every kid threw a book, this could have been stopped.

I like the name Chudleigh.

If I’m ever blessed to share my life with a dog, I’m seriously thinking of naming him that,

A couple days ago, a cop told me they didn’t think most people who carry would shoot an attacker. I disagreed.

I don't believe I could rely on a cop for anything. Anything.

Especially those who salivate to kick down my door and deprive me and mine of my God-given right to defend myself.
