A 75-year-old veteran used his Army knife-fight training to stop a man armed with two hunting knives from going after a roomful of children Tuesday at an Illinois public library, the Pekin Daily Times reports.
Sixteen children were getting a chess lesson from James Vernon in a room at the library when 19-year-old Dustin Brown allegedly came in with a hunting knife in each hand screaming that he was going to kill people. Vernon tells the Washington Post that one thought went through his mind: This cant happen here and Im not going to let it happen. These kids are my responsibility right now.

Way cool!! Love it. This is a lesson in bravery, taught by one of ur nations finest, that these kids will never forget. God bless him.
Well Done!
Wonder if he will get an invite to the whitehut?
Perfect example of acting in a moment of crisis, refusing to be a victim.
A true HERO.
Maybeatrump presidency will bring about the freedom to talk about the side effects of prescription antidepressants. Too much to hope for?
Oh. BTW we love this guy
I pray he heals quickly from his wounds
[Hope he doesn’t have to rely on VA care.]
We need a “like” button on FR.
I’ve a personal story to tell:
Back in late 1990s I was waiting for a taxi out on the sidewalk after leaving work, it was almost dusk. A guy who seemed to be high on drugs, though physically very strong, suddenly out of nowhere came at me grabbing both my arms shaking me violently. Others must have seen it, and didn’t do anything; two Navy officers in uniform nearby must have seen this also, and literally removed him from me, and asked me thereafter if I was ok. Of course that guy didn’t have a knife, but he could have had. It all happened very quickly, and I was quite shaken given the unexpected attack. Personally I’d always feel indebted to those 2 Navy personnel.
Goodness! What a frightening story.
Even if you had a CCW within reach...you might have not had time to react.
I’m glad you are safe! # cheers for the Navy guys. Bless them!
NO, ‘they’ will say it was the fault of the library and will discontinue chess lessons as they draw a ‘bad’ crowd.
The ‘doer’ will sue the city and head librarian for allowing people to defend themselves.
Bless them indeed.
It isn’t an experience to forget easily.
First rule of combat: Be fast and vigorous...
He said he went animal there a few seconds...saving those kids. Thank you for the animal dear Jesus!
The library neglected to post a “Knife Free Zone” sign

That is correct. I guess that is why it is so ‘hard’ to see 50 cops squatting around a building while a gunman is inside shooting people at will.
Back in the day, right wrong or indifferent there would ALWAYS have been a couple of cops storm the building.
I (foolishly?) still go towards the fire or gunfire rather than run from it. Guess that was the way we were raised?
The ‘hero’ will probably face a lot of resentment from some ‘communities’ and end up getting sued or charged with assault - to ‘calm the natives’.
Agree about true hero.
Ha! He’ll likely get a tax audit, knowing these clowns.
This cretin was already out on bail for porn charges. I wonder why? Creepy kid.
This is mostly rhetorical: Do you fight back when attacked?
I’ve rethought what my personal reaction would be if there was an attack of some sort. I was a casual CC individual...but since this insane muzzie terrorist threat is so prevalent....I’m now a religious CCer.
That being said, only if the incident effects me, or my immediate family, would I react with deadly force. Most of the people I would *save* by taking out a killer would be hiLIEry/Hussein voters .... it’s not worth all the trouble.
I’m sure for the pResident ...this will go unnoticed.
But it only underscores that all gun-control laws won’t stop a crazie with intent on evil.
