Report: U.S most obese in the world, fattest kids by a mile, tops for poor teen health

The United States is home to the most obese population in the Americas, Asia and Europe, has the fattest kids by a wide margin and is tops in poor health for teenagers, according to the latest measure of well-being from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

In its "How's Life 2015?" report released Tuesday, the United States is also among the nations with underperforming students and second in murders and assaults.

But the U.S. shines when it comes to personal wealth and even the number of rooms in our homes, said the organization that charts the personal and economic health of countries.

The report from the world organization is released every two years and this year it features a focus on child health and welfare in Europe, the Americas and much of Asia, including Japan and South Korea.

The report notes that all nations have room to improve quality of life for its citizens, though it doesn't openly criticize the United States. However, in several graphics and charts, it is clear that the United States doesn't match the world average in several areas besides child health.

For example, the U.S. is a national of workaholics that doesn't take as much time off as the rest of the world. It also is subpar on life expectancy, adult skills and suffers a higher rate of deaths due to assault than other nations in the report.

But it was the findings on obesity and child health that jumped out in the important report. The key page is shown below.

==================================================================================================================

===============================================================================================================

In the obesity chapter, the United States is put at No. 1, ahead of 33 other nations, despite years of work by the Obama administration, the first lady and the Agriculture Department, which has been pulling sugar and salt out of school lunches.

The report shows that obesity in America has jumped since 2000 and that 35 percent of the nation is overweight. For comparison, 4 percent of Japanese and 25 percent of Canadians are obese.

The U.S. also tops the list of teens report in poor health, at 22 percent.

Worse, the U.S. soars over every other country in the number of obese and overweight children, at a whopping 38 percent. The next worse country is Canada, with a combined obese and overweight child population at below 25 percent.

No more dodgeball or running around the school yard, because of insurance considerations. More than half the boys are excused from gym because of asthma or adhd. Kids no longer form their own class teams to play others after school.

Include the videos and you have a very fat, lazy kid. Prime candidate to become a LiV.

I blame the nanny state that makes it so that my generation and my 13-year-younger brother’s generation barely has to work for anything any more.

That is, until other peoples’ money runs out...

Then guess who’s going to be on the menu?

Our beloved immigrants from the southern countries have high instances of obesity, probably why the rates have risen. It's cultural -a fat wife and kids is a sign of success.

Also, the liberal thought that P.E. classes shouldn't be a part of education.

Smoke weed, play video games, and eat snacks and you can be an obese 14 year old. Can you imagine that - being an obese 14 year old? I am ready for the rapture. Come on God, bring it on!

I really don’t care anymore. Remember when we were worried about undernourished children?

What, you mean that low-fat diet that the government has been preaching (and awful low-fat food we've been eating as a result) doesn't work?!?!?

The hell you say!

However, most of the European countries listed are as much, if not more, nanny states than is the United States. There is something else at work here, other than socialism and welfare benefits.

A park near my home I haven’t visited since my kid was a small child, had swings, monkey bars, balance beams and other such common playground equipment. It’s all gone now, due to insurance fears in case some kid got hurt. They have replaced them with boring climb-on stuff that kids can’t get hurt on.....................or have fun on.................

It really sucks living in America, and even worse being an American, because we are so good at producing food that hunger is virtually unknown. Who knows what evil is committed in the operation of farms and food factories? Stupid immigrants who come here in droves don’t realize how bad things are. They are going to get fat, and it is all our fault. We must immediately stop making and eating food, and apologize to the rest of the world for making them look bad for being skinny and hungry all the time.

It’s their high starch/carbohydrate diets that they bring with them. They eat stuff that in America will make you fat very quickly, but in their home countries they had to work hard just to make a living so the calories were burned off.......................

Fat little butter balls.
Munching Debbie Cakes.
Paid for by food stamps.
Staring motionless for hours at an iphone.

There are at least 7 lakes around this property not including the river. My youth was spent at those lakes and at that river, all day long.
The kids around here now don’t even know the lakes are there.
Sad sad shame.

Kids can’t go hunt chickadees with BB guns, play pond hockey, swim in a lake without a floatie and a lifeguard, build log cabins or fish, or even have paper routes anymore like many of us did as kids.

Partially, but I'd also blame helicopter parents and the fear of government intrusion, like DCF involvement, if your kids ar considered the least "free range" and get a booboo

Shit, a broken arm or stitches was a badge of honor in the late 70's.
