Regarding your TV complaint, I’m in full agreement which is why we have no cable or satellite. Our last service was cable, and out of the 200 plus channels we typically watched about 2 - 3 hours a day on two or three of them. The rest were just plain crap.
We now watch Netflix via ROKU, which is advertising free. For 8 bucks a month you get unlimited streaming. Then if we want we can get local channels with a tv antennae. Then ROKU has many free or pay as you go channels.
I too’d be pissed if I was supporting leftist trash on the TV.

Where I live, there are also about a dozen foreign language channels in the basic cable package. But they aren’t true “cable” channels because every one of them is available for free over the air from local TV stations. I suspect the situation is the same for your cable system.
Moreover, if my understanding is correct, the cable operators are required by the FCC’s “must carry” rules to include these local stations in their “basic” packages without any extra charges. The cable operators don’t like these rule, but the broadcasters’ political influence has been too powerful to permit a change. So your complaint probably should be against the broadcasters, rather than against the cable operators.
