Iowa Radio Host "If Caucuses Were Today, Ben Carson or Ted Cruz Would Win (VIDEO)
Daily Caller ^ | 10/8/02015 | Steve Guest

Posted on 10/08/2015 1:49:33 PM PDT by conservativejoy

Nationally syndicated talk show host Steve Deace said Thursday that if the Iowa caucuses were held today, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would win, even though businessman Donald Trump currently outpolls both candidates.

The reason: Carson and Cruz have superior on-the-ground organizations.

“I don’t believe almost any of these polls,” Deace said on “MSNBC News Nation.” “The record of polling in Iowa is a joke.”

Deace noted that pollsters have warned the Republican National Committee against trusting their results to determine debate placement, and that Gallup will stop polling the 2016 primaries “because they don’t trust their own methodology.

“I’ll just tell you what I see on the ground,” Deace said. “If the caucuses were today, Bernie Sanders would beat Hillary Clinton. And I don’t think it would be close. Meaning I think he’d beat her by outside of three or four points.”

“If the caucuses were today, Ben Carson or Ted Cruz would win, because they by far have the strongest organizations,” he continued. “I think it’s possible that Trump could finish in the top three, but organizationally, he is not as strong as Cruz and Carson. And as we know from Iowa, organization is what wins here.”

According to the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll in Iowa, Donald Trump is leading Ben Carson 24 percent to 19 percent while Ted Cruz has 6 percent. Hillary Clinton is currently leading Bernie Sanders 47 percent to 36 percent.

Steve Deace. What does he say about Trump on his radio show? That would be informative. Usually the folks against Trump go orgasmic at the prospect of Trump not winning.

I take Deuce with a YUGE grain of salt.

He once commented that Sarah Palin was too stupid to write her speeches...and that confirmed his “pseudo-intellect”.

I am for Cruz. I am not for Trump. I am on a LOT of these threads pointing out flaws in logic or in facts. I take Trump seriously as a candidate. The Iowa caucus is hard to poll, because of the inconvenience and commitment it takes to participate, and because open politicking is allowed at the voting site. I wouldn't be surprised if he does worse than his polling indicates, but he could still certainly win, as his lead is consistently significant and he hasn't even broken out his ground game.

That said, I have seen more Trump supporters dismissive of all of the other candidates than Trump opponents acting the way you described.

Hard to argue with that. Some without organization will of course.

Deace is on only one tiny radio station in Iowa, though he still lives here.

He seems to have forgotten that the Gov. Branstad team was backing Walker, and have not decided on their second choice yet.

The Branstad gang’s second choice would normally be slightly favored to win the caucuses. (The Huckabee and Santorum wins happened when Branstad had stepped away from Iowa GOP leadership).

The Iowa Caucuses are a continuing process over some period of time until they get a group selected
to attend the national convention. It starts at the precinct level and progesses up the political
ladder until the get to the state convention which selects the delegates to the national convention.

The Iowa presidential caucuses are local party precinct meetings where registered Republicans
and Democrats gather, discuss the candidates and vote for by party preference to elect delegates
to the 99 county conventions and choose their candidate for their party’s nomination.

The purpose of the caucus vote is to select delegates to attend a county convention. Each caucus
sends a certain number of delegates, based on the population it represents. The delegates
at the county convention in turn select delegates to go to the congressional district state convention,
and those delegates choose the delegates that go to the national convention.

Hey CJ,

Deace, of course, has endorsed Ted Cruz. And, I suspect Vander Platt and Steve King will follow; strategically timed.

Combined with his organization in Iowa, Cruz should take the primary.

Good grief. I legitimately worry about some of you if anyone other than Trump becomes the nominee or president.

I’ll vote for Trump in the general...I worry he may go weird on us. But as it is Ive no reason not to support him and thank him for turning the campaign to real issues.
He has set an example of taking a stand and no backing down!

Agreed. He doesn't exactly have a consistent set of criteria to guide him. As long as he doesn't start blathering about paying Planned Parenthood "only for the good stuff" I can vote for him in the General. As things now, he has had a healthy influence on setting the terms of the debate, and on confusing the heck out of John Ellis Bush and his ilk. He draws fire away from Ted Cruz, and makes it harder for them to marginalize him in the future.

I respect Trump enough as a candidate to know he is for real, he wants to win, and has earned the right to be taken seriously and to be given a fair hearing.

I don’t understand where Carson gets his support. He is the least Presidential of all the candidates. If he weren’t Black, we would never have heard of him.

No, I worry about all of us if anyone other than Trump is the GOP nominee. If that happens it won’t be Cruz,, the GOPe will dispatch him in the primaries, it will be a GOPe candidate and the far lefties will win.
