Donald Trump Enters The World of Multi Level Marketing
Daily Finance ^ | 11/23/09 | Zac Bissonnette

What happens when you combine one of the world's most ridiculed business personalities with one of the world's most ridiculed business models?

The Trump Network, the new Donald Trump-branded multi-level marketing business that is "designed to make people healthier with customized vitamins and nutritional supplements, and to encourage individuals to become entrepreneurs and to take control of their financial well-being."

In an e-mail, Trump told The Associated Press that The Trump Network is his "rescue and recovery program" for people who have been hit hard by the recession.

If you do want to join the Trump Network, you can start with just $48. That will get you a marketing kit and three months of access to a Web site where you can direct your customers and recruits. But the AP adds that "participants are often sold a $497 package that includes the marketing kit, products, CDs, sales tips and coupons."

Do have any idea how sick your comments sound ?

and you do know Pyramid schemes are illegal don’t you ?

How the hell do you keep the word “Conscience” in your screen name if you don’t have one?

Here is a bit more info about the reality (as in Reality TV) :

http://www.businessforhome.org/2012/03/the-trump-network-is-dead/

Of course you don’t care if a few suckers got taken to the cleaners....Did you know Trump was a billionaire?

Suckers ...suckers ...it has a familiar ring to it

What the heck? If people are good at sales they can make some good money with multi level marketing. If you aren’t so great at sales, your family and friends will get tired of you trying to sell them these vitamins. Just saying.

Most MLMs are little more than barely legalized Ponzi schemes.

A fitting description of trump.

So, vote for another politician and see where that gets you. That’s the real rip off.

I think you’re not picking up CoC’s sarcasm - he’s on your side here. As such effusive praise of “The Donald’s” ethically-questionable dealings is frighteningly too common around here, however, I can’t fault you for missing it.

I think there’s a misunderstanding here (totally my fault). My intent was to mock Trump and his supporters here. Of course I know that pyramid schemes are illegal, and that multi-level marketing schemes are sleazy, at the very least.

I had hoped that my sarcasm was obvious - but, given that people have responded to you by actually defending Trump and his pyramid scheme, I guess I should have known better.

No, trump is an opportunistic liberal conman with not quite the skills of Bernie Madoff. But he does seem to have duped a substantial minority of alleged conservatives.

Exactly. I should have remembered that (some of) Trump's supporters are a living embodiment of Poe's law--that is, indistinguishable from parody.

You did some digging here. A six-year-old article from an AOL-owned finance website.

American OnLine - the same dial-up that flooded our mailboxes with billions of sign-up discs and made it nearly impossible to cancel your account once signed up. Almost as bad as a pyramid scheme!

Speaking of pyramid schemes, those are illegal and usually don't involve product. You make your money by signing up people below you.

Multi Level Marketing (MLM), which is talked about here, involves the selling of actual product and is legal. Amway, Avon and Tupperware are other examples of MLMs.

Of course, if you only sell to your friends and family, you are not going to be successful with multi level marketing. Not to mention that you will greatly annoy your friends and family.

The successful ones have to be good salespeople. However, most people that sign up for them are just looking for easy money and quickly get discouraged when they learn they have to get out there and actually sell the product. No, you don't just sign up people below you and watch the money roll in.

My wife sold Tupperware for years when our children were young. It allowed her to get out of the house and socialize when I got home from work at night. Worked out pretty well for us as I got some quality time alone with the children - which I think is important for fathers. It also didn't hurt that she made several hundred dollars a week doing it. She was pretty successful at selling Tupperware and we still have a kitchen full of Tupperware to prove it. That stuff never wears out.

Actually it would make for a pretty good campaign strategy.
What, maybe there’s 100 million households?

If each cell is 10 households, you could cover the whole USA in 8 levels.

Im sorry
I should have recognized your post for what it was.....
In this world of “ Trump is the next best thing to ice cream”
I took it at face value

Again I apologize

And the reality is Trump probably did it so he would come out on top.

I know far more about multi level marketing than I want to and yea the pyramid scheme becomes legal when you introduce a product. The implication in the come on and the sales pitch however are that the products are secondary to the scheme

In my humble opinion multi level marketing should be banned .
Im not sure how many states besides Utah allow the incorporation of the businesses...but there must be some reason they all flock to Utah
