We were the beneficiary of your experience; the parents made a big stink about paying property taxes, while not utilizing the town’s education system. The town leaders set up a “bare bones” bus service for us, since the Catholic population produced a lot of voters.
Of course, I had to hike a half mile, to the bus stop, but by the time my younger siblings attended school, the bus stopped right in front of our house :)
One of my classmates got caught, one time, lagging behind, as our class walked upstairs, so he could peer up the skirts of the girls. He got the steel-ruler-to-the-knuckles treatment, and after that, the boys ascended the stairs, first.
Interesting, he gave an after action report, it wasn’t the first time he had done this misdeed. He told of which girls would stand near the the handrail, for easy viewing, and which ones shied away, and walked closer to the center, of the stair case. It was a foretelling of the future; as we got older, you can guess which girls developed what kind of reputation!

yeah i saw that too. add on top of it that she was/is supposedly a pretty good formerly amateur ranked tennis player herself.
