Word For The Day, Monday, 9/28/15

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

fractious; adj.

1. refractory or unruly: a fractious animal that would not submit to the harness. 2.readily angered; peevish; irritable; quarrelsome: an incorrigibly fractious young man. NOTE: Fractious is sometimes wrongly used where factious is meant: this factious (not fractious) dispute has split the party still further

Etymology: 1725, from fraction in an obsolete sense of "a brawling, discord" (c.1500) + -ous; probably on model of captious. Related: Fractiously ; fractiousness.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

This word came up repeatedly last Friday in the context of Boehner resigning because of the fractious minority in his party causing him problems.

No pushing at the door please!

Please say a pray for my little friend Tally. She was on the first softball team I coached that my twins played on. She was a beautiful young lady in so many ways.

Her parents are the nicest people you’d ever want to meet, I can’t imagine their pain.

Now Boehner can push through all kinds of stuff right at the last minute and collect the, uhem goodwill, after he leaves.

Just watch.

Blaming the Tea party is just madness
It was his own poor political practice
That made Boehner
A goner
Now maybe we can get a caucus less fractious.

But I’m not holding my breath.

oh I’m sure. btw, xshub predicts that obams will give Guantanamo to Cuba before he leaves. All sorts of fun stuff yet to come, i’m sure.
I guess we survived the blood moon, as we are all still here.

The blood moon? The world was supposed to end back on the 23rd, when they fired up CERN, but we survived that too.

I’m betting Boehner sneaks through re authorization of ExIm next month.

And while I’m not betting on it, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if we saw something with amnesty too.

In the good old days, they dealt with people who made false predictions. You only got to be wrong on the end of the world once.

Bound to be bad stuff snuck through. Always dangerous when they’ve got nothing left to lose.

Fr DeCelles on the "galileo matter". Waiting to hear his impressions of the Pope's visit. This was written too early to have any.
