A group of students at American University labeling themselves the AU Justice League have taken credit for ripping down anti-abortion flyers on campus.
The campuss College Republicans put the flyers up Wednesday night, and called for the defunding of Planned Parenthood. But by Thursday morning, the vast majority of the flyers had disappeared.
It didnt take long to figure out why. At 12:30 a.m., the Twitter account @AUJusticeLeague tweeted a photo of dozens of crumpled-up flyers with the caption We had some fun with the college republican posters tonight. Let us know if we missed any guys!
The incident was first reported by Campus Reform, showing a picture of the Justice Leagues tweet before it was deleted. AU has no official group called the AU Justice League, and the Twitter account itself was very recently created, so its currently unclear whos responsible for ripping the flyers down, or how many people were involved.
The Justice League account engaged in brief Twitter spats with critics Thursday but by mid-afternoon, the account was deleted.
Sam Shumate, the vice president of the AU College Republicans, said the removal appeared to have been quite thorough.
Ive walked around campus, and they got just about all of them, Shumate told Campus Reform. I didnt see any.
Ironically, just two weeks ago, AUs faculty senate unanimously passed a resolution condemning the use of trigger warnings and emphasizing the important of freely exchanging ideas on university campuses. (RELATED: Faculty At American University Firmly Reject Twitter Mornings)
Attacks on anti-abortion displays at colleges are not uncommon. Last year at the University of California, Santa Barbara, a professor was arrested after she seized an anti-abortion display from a protester and then destroyed it. In 2012 at Dartmouth College, a Cemetery of the Innocents protest that used American flags to represent the number of abortions since 1973, was run over by a car. In 2006, a professor at Northern Kentucky University urged her students to use their express their freedom-of-speech rights by destroying an anti-abortion display, and then led them in doing exactly that.
Ah, the tolerance and open-mindedness of the left.
Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do.
Probably the same ***holes who call everyone else, “Nazis”. Go figure.
Future Dr. Mengeles.
Yes they do, but misery loves company.
I hate College Nazis.
They feel safe in their crib, but they might find a different response in the realities of life beyond the campus.
So where are the hate crime charges? When is the sensitivity training?
The Party of Tolerance, doing what it does best.
I would call the police — not the Kampus Kops, either. The real ones.
Yup, the empty libholes love to shred pro-life flyers in the same way they love to shred babies in the womb.
{Ah, the tolerance and open-mindedness of the left.}
They are very tolerant—provided your views agree with theirs.
They are only intolerant of opposing views. :)
Stay strong in your faith, Bobalu, and pray for me, because sometimes I’m unable to stay strong in mine, especially when it comes to forgiving God’s enemies.
They can't even get comma usage right. Besides, this use of "guys" is microaggressive.
Some of them may eventually regret their actions.
Projection (i.e. hypocricy) is a sign of mental and emotional imbalance.
It would be interesting to replace the flyers then hide and wait with a spray can of pepper spray. It’s dark. The vandals wouldn’t know what hit them. Wear a pullover type thing with eye holes in case there is night vision security cameras.
Can it be done retroactively?
Yup, perhaps the vandals are future researchers who want to use organs and other body parts from aborted babies in their future careers.
With their minds on their money and their money on their minds.
