We did Neilsen TV ratings for several years, ending a couple years ago.
I ended it when they said a renewal required:
A. sensors on the TV to verify we were sitting in front of the TV or not
B. software apps installed on the computers to track any online media viewing
Kinda like saying Hatch, Boner, Graham, McCain..etc, etc, etc,.....are Conservatives.
It depends on the variance in the population. To have power you need big samples and small variance. Sample size isn’t the only factor.
I’d love to participate. It would be easy. My vote should count even though I dumped TV in 1997. My diary would be completely blank.
The only two people among my acquaintances that have done the Nielsen survey are myself and my mother. This was in the 60s. They just sent out the surveys without any kind of previous questionnaire. My response was easy since I had no tv. Mother’s was not much harder since her week to report was the one just before my wedding when she was staying at my apartment.
I’ve gotten the little book, and five bills, too. I’ve done the survey three times over the years. I actually think the first time, probably, thirty years ago, they gave three dollars. Guess they’ve adjusted for inflation.
Written responses would be expected to be unreliable.
If they really wanted samples they’d get feedback from set top boxes on millions of sets around the country.
Most households do so much surfing, any conclusions would require a very large sample size.
The cable companies know what channel is on and for how long so what is it that Nielsen can do that the cable companies cannot? Heck new tv’s with cameras can watch you on the couch and listen to you.
Your ISP also knows what sites you go to and for how long and what searches you do. My web stats tell how many visitors my site gets from countries all over the world. What pages they go to and for how long.
Another so-called "writer" who has no idea what "to beg the question" means.
THAT’S funny!
At least you two got paid!!!
