Another climber called 911 at 2:10 p.m. to report a man had fallen.
Investigators said Corey Franklin, 23, and Tyler Heilman, 22, both from Bend, were climbing the northwest side of Three Fingered Jack near the summit at an elevation of 7,700 feet.
Heilman, who was not roped in, fell 500 to 600 feet and was killed, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

Sad to hear somebody got killed, but, geez louise, if you are going to do something like this, take all safety precautions.

the article is wrong. The fall doesn’t kill... it’s the sudden stop.

I’ve been thinking since mt. Hood is so dry are the mazamas looking for any lost climbers from years past. Or are the lost supposed to be left to rest? If it was my family I’d want them found.
