On September 13, 1999, the Moon was blasted out of Earth orbit. Space:1999 was one of my favourite shows as a kid. Of course, they brought in Freddie Freiberger for the second season, and he completely ruined it.

Due to the dearth of Scifi back in the 70s on TV I watched this ...but it was purely kid stuff like the original battlestar galactica. Not very good

Even though it hasn’t aged well, I still like 1999.

Got to meet Martin Landau at a DragonCon a few years back. Great guy and I got to talk with him for a minute.

I recall watching it on TV.

IIRC, when it ended, it was a 2-parter, and for some reason I was unable to watch (pre-VCR era) and never knew what happened.

I have not found the complete series or final episodes online.

My sis would never miss The X-Files when they were on broadcast TV. I never watched, because I worked nights and missed it.

Recently, since there are rumors of a remake, I have been watching the series on Netflix and just finished the first season. Even though it is over 20 years old, it still holding up pretty well.

The Netflix stream must have been remastered, because it is in wide-screen format. A lot of the older TV programs have been digitized from old reels and VCR tapes and are difficult to watch on the newer widescreen TV sets.

“On September 13, 1999, the Moon was blasted out of Earth orbit.”

From Astrobiology Magazine
Oct 29, 2007:

If We Had No Moon

The Earth has a large moon, making it unique in the inner solar system. Mercury and Venus have no moons, and Mars has only two small asteroid-sized objects orbiting it. In this essay, the father of the SMART-1 lunar mission, Bernard Foing of the European Space Agency, looks at the effect the Moon has had on the Earth, and explores how different our world would be if we had no planetary companion. Would life have evolved differently, or even appeared on Earth without the Moon?

Phobos is not a moon!

Lol!

From your link...

"The prestigious European Space Agency has declared Phobos, the mysterious Martian moon, to be artificial. At least one-third of it is hollow and it’s origin is not natural, but alien in nature. The ESA is Europe’s counterpart to NASA. Could this revelation motivate NASA to release the secrets it’s harboring? Don’t count on it..."

“Phobos’s density is too low to be solid rock, and it is known to have significant porosity.[12][13][14] These results led to the suggestion that Phobos might contain a substantial reservoir of ice. Spectral observations indicate that the surface regolith layer lacks hydration,[15][16] but ice below the regolith is not ruled out.[17][18]”

What do you mean, "funny"? Funny how? You said "funny"! Tell me, what the ___ is so "funny" about it!!

:)

I thought at first you were going to say it wasn't a moon because it was too small, it being a captured asteroid.

In the Third Grade, I read my first Science Fiction novel. It was about a boy and his dog stranded inside the artificial moon, Phobos.

For the most part, the X-Files will always hold up well, in much the same way Serling’s, “Twilight Zone,” does. The series also did have some inherently conservative themes/trends as outlined neatly in this article:

Robert Conrad (according to the commentary on the DVD) said he saved the Wild Wild West.

But, what he did to 1999 wasn’t well received. Then again, he didn’t have much to work with on that show. Remember that Star Wars was made at the same time as Space 1999.
