Released in 1989, the original film starred Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up one of the rowdiest, loudest bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. A gentleman with a degree in philosophy, Swayzes characters calm is put to the test when he needs to protect the town from a corrupt businessman.
The movie became a breakout hit and still has reached cult status today. This follows MGMs reboot of another classic; the Rocky spinoff Creed hits theaters in November.
Rousey embraced the idea of starring in a remake, but wanted to be respectful when pursuing the project. Sources say Rousey recently reached out to Swayzes widow, Lisa Niemi, to ask for her blessing, which Niemi gladly gave.

I just watched Road House on Netflix.
Slaughterhouse in a Blouse..... aka the arm collector.
Not a great movie. Has some severe choppiness in continuity. Never figured out how a dazzling urbanite like Ben Gazzara ended up in Mudpuddle Hillbillystan.
But I enjoyed it.
I don’t know about her acting skills, but she would be a good bouncer.
Love the movie. The line “I thought you would be bigger” would still be appropriate...
I would watch her chew grass. So a movie is a plus.
Agree re: choppiness. It’s obvious a bunch of film ended up on the cutting room floor, and continuity was not a big concern.
Who are they going to get to play Denise though? Julie Michaels is going to be hard to replace.
I really need a doctor like her.
Replace her with Gina Carano, please.
“Pain don’t hurt” James Dalton in Roadhouse 1989
I get it. Knew a few people like that in the small town I grew up in - though not to Gazzara's extreme, obviously. Lots of redneck locals, coupled with a fair number of well-heeled, old money Northeastern Liberals, makes for strange bedfellows.
It's a power thing. "I'm better/smarter/richer than ALL of you." or "I'm more educated/well-travelled/urbane than ALL of you."
It was common around the college I attended (middle-of-nowhere State U). Imagine a theatrical sigh, coupled with some variant of "It's a trial for me, but I must bring enlightenment to these unwashed hayseeds." That sort of thing.
As a rule, we redneck locals were mostly unimpressed. The snob money spent nicely, though.
I’d like to know who will play Sam Elliot’s role? He’s the one who made the movie.
One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected.
Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary.
And three, be nice.
Sam Elliot? I watched the first show of “Justified” on Netflix awhile ago. The lead actor (Timothy Oliphant or something) reminded me of Elliot. I found an interview of Tim’s where he said he modeled his role after Elliot. “Except it came across like a 12-year old Elliot.”!
Road House needs a reboot? The desert of creativity that is Hollywood continues.
I could sit and listen to Sam Elliot read the phone directory. He only plays one character, but he plays it so very well.
Last time I watched it I realized it’s basically an A-Team episode. Only with an amazing soundtrack and nudity. So I guess it’s nothing like an A-Team episode.
More fantasy, women can fight men.
