Watching a Fox show on illegal immigration tonight, it was mentioned that a 'touchback' program was voted on in the U.S. Senate and was rejected, though it had six Democrats voting for it.
Apparently it was a form of amnesty requiring the illegal to self deport and then come back to the U.S. quickly through a special visa.
Is this what Trump is proposing?
Here's an article:

Kicking millions out only to let them back in quickly isn't going to solve the problem.
This is what worries me about Trump. He has no history of voting and his ideology has been all over the map since he's been in public life.
"They've got to go" may be masking a "...and come back quickly now as legal immigrants" plan.
Here’s another article from TIME from 2006. The number of illegals was 11 million back then as well.
Ten years and apparently we haven’t added any illegals - if you were to believe the MSM...

Good question.
Trump may have some tough rhetoric regarding a wall, but only three years ago he was giving Romney hell for being too mean on illegal immigration. He’s also been talking a bit about getting the good illegals back once they leave and giving them legal status. Trump is a fraud.
As the 90+ FTA rate for follow-up court hearings evidences, they will take the amnesty but do nothing that they agree to do: leaving and returning, paying fines, learning English, passing basic civics exams (like legal “applicants”), supporting themselves, etc.
Honest BP agents will tell you between 25-40 million not counting anchor babies.
All I know is that its down and dirty time to destroy Trump.
Anything his enemies can find will be used against Trump.
They will keep throwing excrement until something sticks.
In and of itself, “touch-back” is the status quo. In order to immigrate to the U.S., you have to apply from your home country through your local consulate. You can’t convert from any kind of non-immigrant status (student, tourist, H1-B, etc.) to immigrant status without going home and applying there. The logic of that is obvious, it avoids the problem that we now see of trying to keep track of people.
So it’s an absolute incontrovertible fact that any process with respect to illegal aliens needs to begin with them going home and applying from their local consulate.
Trump didn’t specify, however, whether or not the illegal aliens would be able to somehow jump the line by virtue of their having been here illegally. Under current law, it’s just the opposite, if you’re found to have entered illegally, you can’t even apply for ten years.
It’s hard to see how you convince people to go home and give the legal process a try, however, if you don’t offer some sort of reason for them to believe that they would be successful in returning legally. I’ll be curious to see how he answers that question in the coming weeks/months.
And Trump will just get stronger.
And it is not jus Mexicans and others from south of the border, it is millions of Indians. Consider that the statistics are often incomplete and talk of people illegally entering the US but fail to count the many more millions that illegally overstay their visas. They are ALL illegal aliens. Most Indians are illegal--came here with H1B and L1 visas, then stayed. Shame on the government for not being honest with the count, not being honest with enforcement, and allowing our nation to be subjugated by hordes of invaders. Were they really so dissatisfied with America that they thought this was acceptable solution?
I’m not yet sold on Trump, but if all these Mexicans are protesting against him ... well, that brings him up a notch or two in my estimation.
LOL!
This situation is totally fubar.
Which other candidate has even mentioned the word deportation?
You have to get to first base before you start worrying how you are going get to home.
Stick your fingers in your ears and go “nyah, nyah, nyah.”
Trump wants to ship the illegals because the ones that are working have taken many of the jobs of the 94 million Americans who have given up looking for work...
Wouldn't make sense for Trump to let them back in without making these jobs available to Americans...And surely he wouldn't let those back in (the 80%) who are now on American welfare...
Likely Trump isn't done developing the plan but he knows what needs to happen...
Obama endorsed “touchback” amnesty in 2009 too.

I’ve been saying for weeks that Trump is not saying how many current illegals he’ll let back in, then he could be creating a huge de facto amnesty that will have all the bad effects on the economy and on padding Democrat voters’ ranks that any other amnesty would. Also, I just watched an O’Reilly interview from 2011 where Trump didn’t even suggest deporting ALL illegals, but just said he’d let the good ones stay and deport the bad ones.
At least Cruz has said he would never support making any current illegals citizens, which Trump has said might happen under his plan.
I know I really depend on FOX and the New York Times for explanation of Trump’s immigration theory. How about you?
So, you set up their little campaign of disinformation and re-direction on the subject of immigration, to which you want to anchor your own opposition to Trump, who is saying the illegals are going to be gone, that some may return, some may stay?
Really? WTH is wrong with that at this early point in the campaign? Hell’s bells, it’s just now Labor Day.
Should he hand you chapter and verse after he announced only 10 weeks ago? Should he get it all out there 14 months in advance of an election to be picked apart by the opposition for fourteen long months? NOBODY is doing that.
Just how stupid do you think he is, anyway? Are you asking chapter and verse from the other candidates, or just the one beating their socks off?
