New strategy in search for Fox Lake murder suspects

Lake County authorities said they have a new strategy in their search for three suspects in the fatal shooting of a Fox Lake police officer. They will explain the new strategy in a press conference at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

On Friday, authorities announced a 24-hour staffed tip-line has been established to efficiently process the large number of leads as they investigate Lt. Joe Gliniewicz's shooting death.

The phone number is 1-800-Call-FBI. A website has also been established, where anyone can submit tips, as well as photos or video: www.fbi.gov/foxlake.

Motorola Solutions has also pledged a $50,000 reward for any tip that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Lt.

FOX LAKE PREPARES FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The investigation of Lt. Gliniewicz's shooting death continues as Fox Lake business owners prepare for big crowds over Labor Day weekend.

In Fox Lake, the mood is somber and people are still in mourning the death of Lt. Gliniewicz. But many area businesses still want people to visit over the holiday weekend.

Patrons will likely be about sharing their grief and stories about Gliniewicz, their hometown hero, in local bars and restaurants.

"They can all share their thoughts and tell us how they are feeling. It's good for everybody to be able to communicate with each other," said Jacqueline Homola, manager of Route 12 Bar and Grill.

Visitors will also notice more officers in the area. Although the intense manhunt is over, the search is still on for the three suspects in Gliniewicz's murder.

A vigil was held for Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz in Fox Lake Wednesday evening.

A digital forensics lab is looking at new video as investigators try to figure out what happened before Gliniewicz was shot and killed.

A homeowner turned in the surveillance video. Lake County sheriff's detectives hope it shows the three men and reveals more about them.

Police are also waiting for evidence test results from the crime scene.

Four days into their search, Lake County investigators said they are determined to find information that leads them to the killers.

"We're going to be relentless until we solve this officer's death," said Commander George Filenko, Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Police are still asking the public for tips. They said there's a good chance the men are still somewhere nearby.

Lt. Gliniewicz's funeral will be held at Antioch High School on Monday.

Public viewing begins at 9 a.m. The service will start at 1 p.m. Then there will be a procession from the high school to Hillside East Cemetery in Antioch, where Gliniewicz will be laid to rest.

Something very odd about this case. Not sure what it is, but we’ll know soon. With all the resources poured into this manhunt, I’m thinking this was a well-coordinated terrorist attack of the Islamo kind. 2 white males? Perhaps they’re Middle Eastern. 1 black male? Perhaps a Somali or American convert. I hope the authorities have scrubbed Twitter and Facebook and ISIS social media BEFORE THE ATTACK really good.

Kind of like Bammy’s war strategy.

I used to live in Fox Lake, that was MANY years ago, like 1978. Fox Lake is a sort of resort town, a place for people to come out and live along the Fox River (and the Fox Lake it forms). There is a lot of what are termed “wetlands” and therefore, never developed. Little places like Nippersink Creek and the various marshes in the area would make a thorough and diligent search perhaps as difficult as the capture of the two escapees from the prison in upstate New York. The Wisconsin border is only about 15 miles away, and while the Wisconsin law enforcement personnel are generally very good and reliable public servants, their degree of vigilance may be rather less than Lake or McHenry counties, in Illinois.

Here’s hoping the creeps are nailed quickly, and if possible, should they put up resistance, they get hurt badly before capture.

There was a “bad guy” who had gunned down a cop here in Florida, that was cornered by the cops from all over the county and the Sheriff’s department. It was discovered there were some 57 bullet wounds in the perp’s body. When asked about why there were so many shots fired, the sheriff replied, “That was all the ammunition we had.”

Magazines in and safeties off, with a steady aim down the laser light beam.

If nothing is really known, how can they be so confident the suspects are still in the area? The obvious thing to do is leave the state, and get as far away as possible. If your identity is unknown and you have bus or train fare, you can be hundreds of miles away in a few hours.

One thing is certain: they apparently got away, despite a quick and heavy police response. That would suggest that (a) they had an escape plan and (b) a fair amount of planning went into the attack.

Of course, that raises the question of what they were doing in Fox Lake. Vacation area, lots of empty cabins, good place to hide before carrying out some sort of attack. Obviously, the officer observed them doing something and gave chase on foot; the killers managed to ambush him and took his life.

I may be wrong, but they don’t sound like your typical criminals, who may have been planning to burglarize some homes or cabins, or perhaps knock over a local bank. The primary search area was fairly small (compared to the recent manhunt in upstate New York); the terrain was far less rugged and law enforcement flooded the area within hours of the officer’s murder. Yet, the suspects seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Something about this one doesn’t pass the smell test.

That would be my guess too. Agree with you that something doesn't pass the smell test, and that may be because Law Enforcement isn't letting onto all they know hoping that the killer's somehow surface long enough to be caught.

Purely guessing on my part.
