Sorry I can't recommend a company.

You probably already do this but I've good results using Amazon.com 'users reviews' to choose equipment... not that I necessarily buy it from them (though I do at times), but only to decide what brands or models to purchase.

Now Harbor Freight's website has these solar modules so you can see what they look like, but they have some quality problems at time with electrical items so be careful.

Maybe that would give you a starting point.

I saw a video from the Solutions From Science site showing their unit being used to smelt lead. Their deluxe unit, of course. =

Check Renogy solar site, offer a variety of almost turnkey solutions from full house to portable solar panel/battery packs.

Have had small scale panel for several years. Very happy with quality.

There are smaller versions but where I plan on putting this, when I can afford it, there are no zoning laws. Out in the country for my primary bug out location. Should be more than enough power for the house, green house and other power needs.

I was even thinking I might be able to mount one or two of the smaller ones on my roof. The HOA that I live in allows for solar, as long as nothing exceeds the roof line. Since my home faces north, I’m thinking two of the smaller ones on the roof, mounted down by the roof edge near the gutter. That would mean it would not be visible from the front, would be below the roof line, and just might make enough power. Might work.

I will have to do more research

There are several solar angle calculators online that will help you see what sort of exposure you can get.

The calculators that I am thinking of are more related to ROI

It’s like the Mayan Calendar thing.

People with way too much time or their hands have decided that there are ‘clues’ in movies, on News programs, etc. that point to some kind of Catastrophe occurring on Sept. 23.

Just google it. Read and decide for yourself if it has any validity.

efficient placement=system size all components=initial investment

you might need that to determine usable output and total cost to calculate ROI, no?

It certainly contributes but the overall design is more complicated than that. My location is fixed, my days of sunlight are reasonably well known, so calculating the output is not difficult.

Where the additional cost for the initial investment comes in are things like battery sizing, location vs distance to batteries, inverters, control panels, etc. Does one create enough energy to only offset some of my electricity? Would two units take me off grid or would I have to get three?

It is a spreadsheet exercise that I need to look into.

Compass orientation and verticle angle are critical to getting optimum output from panels.

Have you tried a small PV test panel in your location? People are always surprised when they get far less than rated max output from panels.

Good luck.

Solar tracking units (esp dual axis tracking) in parabolic dish configurations generally are more expensive but worth it in the long run. With tracking, the dish is always pointed at the sun within a fraction of the optimal degree. As such, the vertical angle is less of an issue. Also, my roof gets full sun, dawn to dusk.
