Solar generator: which is best?
8/26/2015 | me

I need Freeper expertise. Does anyone have the generator pitched on Glenn Beck's show or the my solar backup (are they the same?).

I know it can't back the entire house up but we are looking for one that can run the fridge and/or freezer.

I just finished reading the survivalist series by A. American and Morgan (lead guy) had a solar generator.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I could also use the same advice. I went to myendlesspower.com (Beck’s sponsored site) just yesterday. All I am looking for is one that is not too expensive that will run a well pump and small chest freezer and fridge. I could even rotate. Thanks for any advice.

Are you in a place that the sun shines every day? Long period of cloudy weather can run you batteries dead. Can you even break even on these systems?

It has been a year since I researched the unit being pitched by Beck...so I don't recall all details. But, I recall that it is not beefy enough to run a fridge, especially when the fridge compressor motor kicks in.

I was going to get one but there were too many cons on my list to get me to buy. I decided on a 5000 watt gas unit with a propane converted carb.

yes, near Orlando.

I’m not thinking about breaking even per se but just want something quiet if the bottom falls out of society and something that doesn’t require fuel.

Look on the devices that you want to power for the amperage they require or use an ammeter (or Kill A Watt Meter). Then you will know how much power you need ( volts x Amps = watts) Then see what solar cells and batteries meets that.

We sure won't have to worry about back up systems then!

Also there are companies who sell 'plug and play' systems that you put up connect and you have power.

Remember solar needs Full Sun, that's sunburn quality all day long or you won't produce much power ...

Right now, America desperately needs to have massive production of super-insulator, flexible, thin-sheet aerogel.

Aerogel was first invented in 1931, but was expensive and tended to crumble. Only recently have they figured out how to make it in the form of thin, flexible sheets.

Line your oven, freezer or refrigerator with it and once it is to temperature, if you don’t open the door, it will only need a fraction of the amount of energy to keep it at temperature, compared to a typical appliance.
