A classic car belonging to the founder of Papa Johns Pizza, stolen overnight in Detroit, was recovered on the city's west side Monday, according to police.
The gold 1972 Camaro Z-28 was in town for the Woodward Dream Cruise.
It had appeared in several commercials for the pizza chain through the years.
The Camaro was stored inside a trailer and parked in a lot on Woodbridge Street.
The trailer disappeared sometime between midnight and 7:30 a.m.
The vehicle was once owned by John Schnatter. He sold it in 1983 to help save his fathers tavern. He used the rest of the money to start up the successful pizza chain.
72 camaro 2 After years of searching, Schnatter found his Camero in Lousiville and repurchased it.
A car theft in Detroit? Whoda thunk it? What next, murder?
My father bought a 1972 Datsun 240Z in 1973 from the original owner. The date on the engine states that it was manufactured circa August 1972.
The original owner had bought it as a “date bait” vehicle. It was so successful that he had to sell a year later because his new wife was pregnant.
So, the yellow 240Z came into our lives. I drove it for a while, then it was a garage queen between 1999 - 2010.
The 240Z is now my nephew’s car. Will “date bait” once again be successful? Stay tuned.
Dated a guy in HS who had one. Awesome car.
I was in my late 40s and early 50s when I drove that car. It was easy to service and I could push it if necessary.
My nephew attracts a lot of female attention with that car.
Maybe it’s your nephew and the car has nothing to do with it.
I was in college when the Datsun Z cars came out.
I was walking through a blizzard one day to get to my Oldsmobile that had a dent on every panel. I was on my way from my last class of the day to go to my full-time night job. I was frozen and hungry and tired.
Just then, a Datsun 260Z came down the road. I looked at it and screamed,
“Someday! Someday I will have one of those!”
And now, almost 40 years later......I have an old pickup.
It would have been a better story if I had found a Z and restored it and been featured on some car show or something. if you’re disappointed, think how I feel.
Lousiville? Where’s that? Do these people ever proof their work?
Old pickups are cool..............
My brother and I talked my Mom into getting a Camaro in 1969. Just a 308 V8 with a 3-speed on the floor, but we learned how to drive a stick shift. She was 41 at the time and she ended up driving stick shift cars for the next 25 years. Said she had “more control” with a manual tranny. :)
Or get a rebate on your rent.
And the old guys who drive them are hot!!!
It’s because we’re too cheap to get air conditioning.
