One option is to create a regional center like one in Vermont that officials say has helped generate $500 million in investments, and another $500 million in commitments.
The LePage administration is considering establishing a program that would help Maine businesses lure foreign investors by giving those investors permanent U.S. residency. Maine would be the third state, after Vermont and Michigan, to create such a program, which allows foreign nationals to obtain a green card if they invest in projects that create jobs.
The investment program, called EB-5, was authorized by Congress in 1990 but never successfully implemented in Maine. It gives visas to individuals who invest $1 million, or $500,000 if the region is rural or has high unemployme

Are you suggesting Maine should respect existing immigration laws? What a novel idea! /sarc
There have been immigrants coming to the US for hundreds of years. What is your problem with rich people? Millionaire foreigners bug you much? I am sure they are the kind of people that will go looting at night./sarc
The state does not give out the visas, they merely facilitate opportunitiesfor people with means to get visas. All clearly spelled out in the article.
Tired of them here be they rich, poor or whatever.
Those with money have more power to change America. Welcome, Sharia law!
I live in Maine and this is the first I’ve heard of this alleged plan.
Gov. Paul LePage is probably the most conservative governor in the country. He ended Maine’s status as a sanctuary state just a few days after being sworn in as governor in January, 2011.
He has also led the charge in deny EBT cards and welfare to both legal aliens AND illegal aliens.
Currently, he’s pushing for a state constitutional amendment to abolish Maine’s income tax.
Rich Saudis have invested quite a bit in this country. They have built quite a few mosques here. You down with that?
No.
The wrong immigrants come here only for American money or to buy influence to further take over our country and violate our freedoms.
The right ones come with marriages to Americans and to become Americans.
