A Minnesota man opened fire on a birthday party after the birthday party attendees would not sing "Happy Birthday" to his girlfriend, the New York Daily News reports. Delonte Thomas, 20, has been sentenced to nearly 28 years in prison for the shooting.
The incident happened a year ago this month, when Thomas was at a birthday party for someone else. He reportedly started a fight with some partygoers for serenading the host, but not his girlfriend, whose birthday was happened to be the same day. He left the party and returned about 20 minutes later with a semi-automatic, and shot the woman who refused to sing to his girlfriend nine times. Thomas also shot two others eight times each. All three were treated and survived.
Thomas said in a court statement that he has no memory of having a gun or shooting any guests the party.
"I'm the peacemaker, I'm the one to try my best to make it through the situation. I don't recall having a gun. I don't recall shooting [anyone]. I just hope to get some type of mercy here," he said.
He added, "Everybody makes mistakes, and everybody deserves a second chance."
Delonte, eh?
Pillar of the community, obviously.
Delonte, it’s blow out the candles not blow up the candles.
Didn’t Laura Ingraham have a book, “Shut Up And Sing!”? The plot thickens.
Tagline change.
His “second chance” shouldn’t start for a couple of decades.
Who said chivalry was dead?
Maybe what has been reported is inaccurate. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Wasnt there a Whitey in the area that they could blame?
Did he own a rebel flag? How about TEA Party affiliation?
Don’t shoot the piano player
Sounds to me like Delonte felt “dissed” or disrespected.
In ghetto culture, being dissed is the worst thing that happens to people. And in ghetto culture, the response to being dissed is violence.
Well, he sure proved to all of us that he’s the toughest mother fletcher in the ‘hood didn’t he???? Does he get bonus points with the guys in prison when they find out what he’s in for???
Well come on now. Sometimes McDonald’s runs out of chicken mc nuggets, and you have to show them who is boss.........sarcasm

Nice try, Delonte.
NINE? He should get another 10 years for lousy marksmanship
How backwards can we get?
I thought it was more traditional to shoot 'em for singing (badly).
A mistake is when you dial a wrong phone number, not when you open fire at a party.
Looking at his cranial size his IQ is 60 max.
Yeah...He's voted in every election since he was 7yrs old......but he just doesn't know it....He'll be voting from prison too...and long after his death...
I about wet myself the first time I heard this many years ago. Still brings a belly-laugh and I wish Rush would do more along this line now.
To be fair, the attendees probably didn’t know the words...
Okay, I say we make him understand just what he did.
Inflict the same wounds on him. Let him understand rationalization and downplaying what he did, isn’t going to be bought by suckers, we’re not suckers.
Give him his victims’ experience. Then see if he’d say the same thing to weasel out of punishment.
