As the scandal over Planned Parenthood selling the body parts of unborn babies escalates, pro-life advocates are increasingly turning their focus onto companies and organizations that fund the abortion giant.
Years ago, the breast cancer charity Komen for the Cure, after several years of protests and opposition from pro-life groups, finally announced that it would no longer fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Planned Parenthood, in turn, used its supporters in Hollywood and the mainstream media to so thoroughly castigate and trash Komen that it was bullied into resuming funding.

Now, in a recent statement, Komen has admitted that it has resumed funding the abortion company to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. Komen claims its donations only fund breast cancer screenings, even though the money is fungible and dollars for such screenings freeup Planned Parenthood funds to be used to promote and perform abortions.
Susan G. Komen Affiliates fund breast cancer screening and outreach programs at 11 Planned Parenthood centers in local communities, with grants totaling $465,000. This is far less than 1 percent of the nearly 1,300 community health grants that Komen and its Affiliates fund worldwide every year. In all, Komen has invested more than $1.8 billion in community health and education programs since its founding in 1982.
The funding to these 11 Planned Parenthood locations pays for breast health outreach and breast screenings for low-income, uninsured or under-insured individuals. These include clinical breast exams and referrals for mammograms if needed.
Komen does not and never has funded abortion or reproductive services at Planned Parenthood or any grantee.
Earlier this month, Komen’s support for Planned Parenthood cost it almost $5 million in funding from Congress.
House Republican leadership cancelled a vote scheduled today on H.R. 2722, the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act, a measure that would have poured up to $4,750,000 into the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a major donor to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion company.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement praising House Republicans for their pro-life resolve:
“The House Republican leadership acted responsibly by pulling this measure, which would likely have funneled more money to Planned Parenthood, an organization that is the focus of yet another horrific scandal.
“It is past time for the federal government to stop funding Planned Parenthood, an organization that has provided cover for sex traffickers, engaged in gender targeting, and is known for dirty, bloody clinics. An explosive report released today shows Planned parenthood is involved in fetus farming and is possibly violating the partial birth abortion ban. Congress must investigate these charges to ensure that unborn babies are not being aborted to harvest their organs and body parts.
“This bill’s goals are well-intended, but the results will only fund the nation’s largest provider of abortions. There are better ways to fund cancer research that don’t involve Planned Parenthood,” concluded Perkins.
In 2012, Komen for the Cure officially buckled to pressure from Planned Parenthood and 17 affiliates of the national breast cancer charity resumed providing grants for the abortion business.
Komen had long been a subject of national controversy in which pro-life advocates initially boycotted Komen and then celebrated earlier this year as it appeared the breast cancer charity had made the decision to revoke funding for the abortion business. After massive public pressure, media attacks and lobbying from Planned Parenthood, Komen indicates the abortion business would be eligible for funding but did to say whether funding would be continued.
Leading pro-life groups had hoped Komen would keep their de-funding decision in place via a change in grant-making criteria making it so organizations like Planned Parenthood that do not do mammograms would no longer be eligible for so-called pass-through grants in which they merely provide referrals to legitimate medical centers and physicians who do.
Yet another reason not to join the pink mafia every year.
The HORROR.
Ironic that Komen boots money toward an outfit that performs abortions, when a (suppressed) study showed women with artificially terminated pregnancies carried a risk for breast cancer 2-3 times that of women who had not had an abortion.
can someone explain to me why Komen has such influence on well meaning people? some think they are actually doing something and I wonder if they know about the Planned Parenthood connection? why do communities go so all out for it?
