President Obama’s top healthcare official defended federal funding for Planned Parenthood at a hearing on Tuesday as Republicans zeroed in on cutting off its money.
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell focused her comments on how the federal funding for Planned Parenthood provides mammograms and other services for women.
“What I think is important is that our HHS funding is focused on issues of preventative care for women, things like mammograms and cancer prevention screenings,” Burwell told the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
“We do not fund abortion,” she added, though Burwell noted there are some exceptions to the Hyde Amendment, a law that prohibits federal funding of abortion.
Planned Parenthood has often been a GOP target, but the political storm surrounding the nonprofit has reacheda fever pitch following the release of a series of undercover videos showing officials candidly discussing the donation of fetal tissue for medical research.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the chamber will vote to cut off funding for the organization before leaving next week for the August recess.

The GOP helped start Planned Barrenhood! Why would they want to defund it? Prescott Bush was one of its first fundraisers. They wanted to make sure there weren’t too many black, Hispanic or defective babies coming into the world mucking things up. I know this is all true. I just read it on Wikipedia! Heh

why didn tanyone ask her how many mammograms and cancer screenings planned parenthood actually do at their facilities each year, personally? if she cant answer why should they get half a billion dollars a year and we have no accounting for a cost breakdown of where it is going, exactly.
she lied when she said they do them, that is why. no planned parenthood anywhere does mammograms and cancr screening. they refer people to places that do them. they do none.
At least Burwell is consistent - she supports both Obamacare and dismembering babies. Every position that have heard her take gas been pure evil.
In addition to defunding PP the laws regarding government grants to all nonprofits need to be changed. Simply stated if an organization receives federal grants, subsidies, or property it cannot give money or non monetary support to any political party, lobbying group, political or social action organization, or other non profit. The use of taxpayer money to fund the progressive movement needs to be ended.
With respect to the HHS secretary’s assertion the federal government does not fund abortion I have a simple question. If all federal funding of PP were eliminated, could the organization sustain its abortion activities at the current level and maintain the existing number of employees and facilities? If the answer is no, the federal government is subsidizing abortion.

When this issue came up during the campaign season a few years back, I personally called our Planned Parenthood in Columbia, SC, and tried to set up an appointment for a Mammogram. I was told they did not do them but would refer me. The doctor to whom I was referred charged for the Mammogram, so going to Planned Parenthood would not have benefited me at all. It is smoke and mirrors and low intellect people believe them when they proclaim they are doing this service for women.
Our planned parenthood does not do mammograms. They dispense birth control,pregnancy tests,STD tests, and testing for cancer is an afterthought while they have the pap smear.
There is no surgery, but there is no “planning parenthood” either.
I am SO sick of liberal writers euphemisms for pure evil. They are carefully butchering innocents to harvest body parts for financial gain. Rush described some of the latest video where a "technician" was poring over butchered babies with tweezers and found intact kidneys. His coworker said "Five Star!" after the find. Look what democrats and liberals have wrought -- there is nothing too depraved and offensive to God for them to pursue. It seems they are only short steps from having Dr, Mengele conduct heinous experiments and the construction of showers and ovens for the "useless eaters" among us.
