I use it to scan items here at home. I turn everything I get into electronic media and store it on a fire proof hard drive. I keep very little in the way of actual paper items except when absolutely necessary.
It also comes in handy for remote deposits and it helps me when anyone asks me to turn something into a .PDF, .TIFF, .JPG, etc. I use it quite a bit, at home and work.
OK, I use an HP printer & its scan software -> jpgs, then PDFCreator to make PDFs from document jpgs, and the like. Freeware.
I use Foxit Reader because it's got half the RAM footprint that Adobe Acrobat has, and it isn't bugging me to update it constantly. Also freeware.
