A county coroners official said the man had not been identified as of early Monday evening.
The elite Robbery-Homicide Division took over the case, getting a search warrant for the victims home.
Inside, they found more than 1,200 firearms including handguns, rifles and shotguns as well as more than 2 tons of ammunition. An LAPD bomb squad was sent to the home to determine that the search was safe to proceed.
Evacuation for surrounding homes were ordered for nearly 12 hours Saturday, when the search was conducted.
Investigators were being assisted by the LAPD Detective Bureaus gun detail to determine the origin and legality of the firearms.
The address given by police was for a block with multiple condominium developments.

Damn, they going to have a garage sale soon?
If ammo burns, it pops.
Mostly it’s not really dangerous, the notion it speeds off at standard shooting velocity is an idea for morons.
So he collected guns —SO WHAT.
Done to prevent videos being made, I would assume.
“Inside, they found more than 1,200 firearms including handguns, rifles and shotguns as well as more than 2 tons of ammunition.”
Amateur.
They will keep every one of the guns— they cannot legally seize, and which would be part of the man’s estate, including the ammo.
Legal beagles— what say you? Well, this is kalifornicationia.
Maybe he did some diving at various lakes around the country where there have been so many unfortunate canoeing accidents involving gun losses.
The ones they do seize will be divvied up among the cops, you betcha.
Wonder if anyone’s checked to see if he had his FFL.
I guess it’s ok to report. If the guy had 1200 blenders, or 1200 stereo speakers, it would probably still make the news.
Other than that it’s nobody’s business.
What is the source for this?
THe media being what it is, Im assuming a 22 hand gun a pellet rifle and 1100 pellets.
However I don’t doubt the A-Hole wannabe army men, cops, shut down half of the county, called in catering and made a full day of inconveniencing as many people who are not their friends or family.
I have no idea how they got there!
Ok, this guy was approaching arsenal status
Assuming $100 per piece at auction, that’s $120K for his heirs. Not retirement money, but still a nice chunk of change.
If this feller had lived, he would have needed a pretty big boat to lose that much G&A.
LOL. What ever happened to that maggot anyway?
I think he recently plead guilty to some racketeering charge to get a lighter sentence. Not sure about the gun charges.
there are I believe still many honest cops
but
we have seen some cops that outright steal innocent people’s goodies when they can get away with it, too
Done to prevent videos of guns going out back door
