Put Up Memorials Thanking Union Families For Their Sacrifice For Emancipation
Civil War Trust ^ | July 15, 2015 | self

With roughly 600K Union Lives given, the facts of this sacrifice should also be recognized and become a part of the discussion.

And, a "Thank You" would be in order, as well.

The 620,000 figure is total dead. You may be thinking about total casualties, which were about 600,000 for the Union and 500,000 for the Confederacy.

So you think “thank you’s” for a war with enemies this country wants to completely disavow, erase and forget as completely racist is necessary? You don’t even cite losses for the other now-discredited side.

Not even, fella.

Remember the Left will soon be hating the army of the Potomac too.. and esp the Military Division of the Mississippi because it did not stop and help the freed slaves on Sherman march to the sea.

All history MUST be changed to allow for the lefts fantasy world to become possible, for if history is known than their plans would be laid bare in the light of it.

600,000 mostly white lives given that all slaves could be free. Have African-Americans ever said “thank you?”

How many slaves were freed?

The Sons of Union civil war veterans officially support the display of the confederate battle flag.

From the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War: Our Position on the Confederate Battle Flag

We've got plenty of monuments to Union generals here in the north.

Alpheus Starkey Williams only claim to fame seems to be in repeatedly losing to Stonewall Jackson but he still got a cool statue.

Leave the confederate monuments alone.

What? The Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t until two years into the war.

And it wasn’t 600K union lives given. That was the total figure for both sides (620K at the link).

Get your facts right.

You do realize the Emancipation Proclamation was a calculated political move by Lincoln, more than two years in the war, to rally support for their “cause” because they were losing said support in Congress and across the Union as they simply couldn’t seal the deal against a more formidable opponent. Also, the E.P. only freed slaves in the states in rebellion, not the slaves in the north...just saying....

I am taken aback but not surprised that modern day Northerners have such a superiority complex over people with Southern accents that they are spiking the football 150 years later. When will the North stop fighting the Civil War?

It is in their everyday makeup. Look at their papers, their entertainment, the ‘skits’ by their comedians to NYC audiences.

They largely know nothing about the south, nor care to until they finally have to escape their tax-hells and come down here to start their hell on earth all over again.

The war began in April 1861. Lincoln wrote the proclamation in the summer of 1862, issued the preliminary proclamation in September 1862, and the final one on January 1, 1863. By my calendar that's less than two years not more.

We used to have a statue to General Sheridan in Nebraska, till the Indians took exception to him.

Like Sherman, he decided to fight the war that was, not the war many wanted.

If the north was so inspired to end slavery, then why did states and feds have to pay large enlistment bounties? Principle at a price?

Were the draft riots caused by throngs lined up at recruiting stations growing impatient at how long it was taking to get to the front?

When the South does?

My ancestors from Tennessee fought for the Union and held slaves. They were from Southwestern Tennessee and the men from his county formed two companies of cavalry. Most were slaveowners.

Time difference....okay. But the crux of the matter is “did his EP enforce his edict ONLY in rebellion states or not?” All else is diversion.

It’s pathetic that after all these years that southerns are still upset that they lost the war to the superior Union. Democrats love to complain, I suppose.

Sherman and Sheridan taught the South to cry,
Then the two went out West and showed the Indian how to die

Yes they did.

Which is why there are some many things with “Sheridan” on them in the West.

Here is a hint. The Sioux were not very nice people.

Yeah, because he didn't have the authority to free the slaves in the non-rebelling states. That took a constitutional amendment. What? You never saw "Lincoln"?
