Exclusive trailer debut of Syfy's Arthur C. Clarke series 'Childhood's End'

We're exclusively premiering the new trailer for Syfy's miniseries "Childhood’s End," which just debuted at Comic-Con on Saturday morning. Get a good look at what Arthur C. Clarke’s sci-fi novel will look like in real life, right now.

Set in a world that's already been conquered by aliens, this trailer actually shows the big "first contact" moment. "There’s no need to be afraid," says the alien voiceover. "We've come to help mankind. We are not conquerors."

I first read the novel in 1960 and have re-read it several times since. I hope this adaptation is good.

They were (or looked like) devils.

SyFy is actually getting back into the sci fi game.

“Defiance” was looking like a fail but this season has been exceptional.

Dark Matters is OKish as well as Kill Joys. Dominion is also good.

Appearances can be deceiving.

I felt sorry for them.

I plan to watch it, but I hope it doesn’t get ruined by making it a preachy plot on the environment. I just don’t trust these movie makers.

It’s a made for the SyFy channel movie, some slight insulation from the Hollywood libertards.

Besides, if it follows the book at all the ending makes envirofascism kinda moot...

Reminds me of an old episode of Twilight Zone (I think) where the aliens said they came to serve man. At the end, as one of the more skeptical characters in the story is being wheeled up the gang plank of the flying saucer against his will, it’s revealed the book given to the humans by the aliens at the beginning of the story turns out to be a cook book.

Defiance is a very interesting universe and I like and care about the characters. I have found that in SciFi, if you have an interesting premise AND you can care about the characters, you have a winner regardless of production values. Possibly the worst example of a limitless budget, very good actors and HORRIBLE writing and character development that I have ever seen was the film “Lost In Space”.

It should be noted that Clarke included a disclaimer at the start of the book, apparently not wanting to be confused with L. Ron Hubbard, that this was a religious novel.

The book is anti-religious, in that the aliens are able to show the actual historical origins of the world’s religions are fake, with a very few exceptions.

I'm really liking Rahm Tak. He's a genocidal alien but a great character.

He wants to kill all the Pink meats but loves the old earther music.

Uhhh, actually they blocked time viewer access to all areas and times associated with any extant religion’s origin.

Quite the opposite of proving them false.

I gave up on it last season. I might go back and watch some of this season via On Demand.

Killjoys and Dark Matter are pretty good, so far.

A friend of mine just gave me an iPad mini case that looks EXACTLY like the To Serve Man cookbook. We were at San Diego Comic Con at a restaurant taken over by SyFy channel, renamed and redecorated (every year) like one of its series.

I haven’t read the book but anytime a writer adds a character that wasn’t there I become skeptical. So this guy thinks he knows better than Arthur C. Clarke? Not.
