Ford plans to move production of two of its smallest cars from its assembly plant in Michigan to a plant overseas by 2018 to maintain competitiveness.
Ford did not say where it would relocate production of the Focus and C-Max, amid media reports that Mexico was likely.
The Focus is already produced at several locations around the world.
'We currently are reviewing several possible options,' said spokeswoman Kristina Adamski.
'We are committed to continuing to improve competitiveness and to invest where it makes the best sense for our business.'
The announcement came as Ford and the other two large US car makers, General Motors and FCA US, the former Chrysler, gear up for new contract talks with the powerful United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

Mexico is not overseas.
It is if you leave from the east coast and keep heading east, LOL!
Well, dang. I love my Ford Escape. Wonder if Mike Rowe knows about this move?
RE: Mexico is not overseas.
Should that make me feel better about our manufacturing jobs?
El Focus
“Mexico is not overseas.”
ROTFLMAO
Totally your call. I won't tell you how to feel. Liberals do that.
I like Trump. Somebody’s actually saying [some] of what needs to be said without worrying about repercussions. (A guy with the weird name of Obama got elected doing the same thing.) Thank God for a non-politician who is not cowed by handlers and donators who breed timidity.
Trump’s got a good handle on the illegal/border issue, but he’s missing the mark on the economy as far as foreign trade. When manufacturing moves off shore, it’s not the destination’s fault. It the fault of the stupid federal government who force wage controls (minimum wage) forcing U.S. companies out of our country where people can do the same job for lower pay and the resulting prices are lower.
Tariffs are a tax. They’re like shooting yourself in the foot. China or Mexico doesn’t suffer if we put tariffs on their imports. THE AMERICAN CONSUMER will suffer becasue of higher prices and less availability. China and Mexico can also take their wares elsewhere.
Thank the UAW.
Whenever a Detroit Automaker has dividends the UAW demands wage hikes to eliminate those future dividends or threaten a debilitating strike.
Spread production over many countries then any one strike by any one national union is less debilitating.
BTW Jobs going overriver.
Did Mexico move to another continent?
Hey Ford move the plant to the UP of Michigan, you already own the land where they old Ford plant is in Kingsford, MI. MI being a right to work state the new plant does not have to unionized and it would be competitive and guess what it would not even have to move out of state just move to already own property.
RE: Did Mexico move to another continent?
Many wish it did ... far enough to have the word “overseas” apply.
About a third of it is in the southwest United States.
I didn’t realize the Rio Grande became a sea. Sheesh, I better start paying more attention.
Might as well be.
That's more jobs that thanks to our stupid international trade policies, that will not be available for either American citizens or illegal immigrants.

Has the great leader been informed of these plans???
He will surely make things right. no?
RE: He will surely make things right. no?
Seriously, His policies are only ACCELERATING the plans of companies to move manufacturing abroad.
Who the heck can do business in a country where regulations are through the roof, minimum wages are MANDATED and healthcare costs are sky rocketing?
but but he said.....
Oh Im sorry that may have been a Republican!....
