FAIRMONT -
Two caregivers are charged with abuse and neglect of an incapacitated adult after Fairmont police said they sprayed a man with a water hose.
Court documents said Melissa Shonce, 33, and Courtney Mundell, 21, were trying to get a man to come inside the ResCare facility on Mary Lou Retton Drive on June 10. When he did not, officers said the women sprayed the man with the water hose.
Police said an officer received a complaint from a ResCare director.

Are these two Democrats? No dogs around to sic on him?
Disgusting.
Don’t give them ideas. Getting wet probably didn’t cause any real harm, especially since it’s summer.
They were trying to get him to come inside? Not sure I understand how and incapacitated person can resist.
Sorry. ;)
Depends on how hard they sprayed the elderly man. Plus if they did that outside what do they do to him and others like him in priavate?
A mentally incapacitated person can be very strong and determined. I saw my father lift four healthy young male emergency room workers off the ground, and that was after he'd been sedated.
Yes, that’s true. Just pointing out that, in the absence of other information, spraying a man with a garden hose was far from the worst they could have done ... especially the big one.
Oh, mentally incapacitated. I thought they meant physically. Like in a wheelchair or something. Thanks for the clarification.
I’m just going by the information in this brief article. The man was outside, presumably in the fenced area we see in the picture. The employees wanted him to go inside, and he was resistant, so presumably he was ambulatory.
They should not have spayed the man. However....
I will take the opportunity to mention that being a caregiver for a mentally challenged or senile individual is an extremely difficult, frustrating thing. You are paid very little, you have lousy hours, the work is dull. Its depressing, everyone you spend the day with has less than a 702 IQ and you can feel your own IQ being sucked away. Your ward, through no fault of their own, might repeat the same question or says the same thing over, and over, and over... Just because someone is old or mentally challenged does not mean that they cannot be deliberately mean or nasty, and you have to deal with that. If its your child or parent its all of the above and you probably get to pay someone else to join you in your misery.
It was probably dinnertime they had other people complaining that they wanted to eat. They had to get him inside and couldn’t think of another way to do it and they couldn’t leave him alone to feed the other people in their care. (Or, he might have needed his diaper changed.) They should not have sprayed him.
Oops! Should have said “less than 70 IQ,” not “less than 702 IQ!”
You also should have said “sprayed” instead of “spayed” ;-)!
Duh! Stune my beeber! Spell check error! You are so correct! Neither of the described actions is acceptable! :)
Good tagline.
